Emma “Marie” Hagen age 98 of Redwood Falls passed away Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at Sunwood Good Samaritan Care Center in Redwood Falls. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 17 at St. John Lutheran Church in Redwood Falls. Visitation is 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Saturday at the church. Burial is in St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Sheridan Township. Online condolences may be sent at www.stephensfuneralservice.com. Emma Marie Hagen was born November 28, 1915 in Rose Township, Ramsey County, Minnesota to Charles and Emma (Thorwaldsen) Giesmann. She was baptized as an infant, and later confirmed her faith at St. John Lutheran Church in Sheridan Township on June 22, 1947. Marie attended school district 61 in Maple Plain. Following her schooling, Marie worked as a maid and governess for several families in the Twin Cities area. She then worked at Munsingwear in Minneapolis prior to her marriage and moving to the farm in Sheridan Township, Redwood County, Minnesota. On February 6, 1947, Marie was united in marriage to Harold Herman Hagen on the Hagen family farm. Together, Marie and Harold farmed in Sheridan Township until moving into Redwood Falls in 1990. Harold passed away on April 25, 1994. Marie moved into Johnson Park Place in Redwood Falls in 2008, and later entered Sunwood Good Samaritan Care Center in August of 2012. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Sheridan Township where she was active with the Ladies’ Aid until the church’s closure. Marie kept busy sewing, cleaning, gardening and canning. Caring for her family and their home was most important to Marie.
Marie is survived by her daughters: Sandra (Paul) Jaenisch of Clara City, Evelyn Leupke of Minneapolis, Margaret (Gary) Stende of Fargo, ND; 5 grandchildren: Lisa Jaenisch, Brian (Mary) Jaenisch, Michelle (Chad) Backes, Mike (Tara) Leupke, Amanda Stende; 7 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Marie is preceded in death by her parents, husband Harold, son-in-law David Leupke, and brother Edgar Bradish.
Please know that even though we are miles apart, our thoughts and prayers are with you all. Our deepest sympathy in the loss of your Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother.
