Frances Mae Hill age 85 of Cottonwood passed away Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at the Golden Living Center in Olivia. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 24 at Christ Lutheran Church in Cottonwood. Visitation is one hour prior to services at the church. Interment is in Christ Lutheran Cemetery. Frances was born January 13, 1929 in Linn Grove, Iowa to Herman and Marie (Graphentin) Fonley. She graduated from Linn Grove High School and attended Buena Vista College in Storm Lake. On May 28, 1951 she married Ivan Hill in Linn Grove. The couple lived in Alta and LeMars, Iowa, Plymouth, Nebraska, and South Dakota before they settled in Cottonwood, Minnesota in 1972. Frances managed a Dari Queen in Sioux Falls and Marshall and operated the Hillbilly Drive Inn. She worked at Marshall Produce before she became disabled in 1983. Frances entered the nursing home in 2005. In her younger years, she coached girls’ softball. Frances was a member of the Jaycees in Plattsmouth, NE and a bowling league in Marshall. She enjoyed playing Bingo, fishing, camping, and crocheting. Frances loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Frances is survived by her children: Burton (Leah) Hill of Sioux Falls, Bruce (Pat) Hill of Mounds View, Barbara Alu of Marshall, Betty Hill (Tim Tweet) of Cottonwood, and Brenda (Joel) Krumrey of Olivia; 19 grandchildren: Gwen, Linda, Patty, and Jeff, Christina, Jessica, and Jackie, Michelle, Ray, Sandy, and Robyn, Jason, Michael, Nicholas, and Timothy, Shane, Shawn, Scott, and Ryan; great-grandchildren: Cody, Travis, and Natalie, Cheyenne, Anthony, Jeremiah, Travis, Caitlyn, and Charlie, Toby, Caelan, and Rowan, Eli, Kyle, Emma, Kaleb, and Haydin, Lily, Roman, Paige, Niles, Nolan, Nathan, and Nevyn, Taylor, Haydin, and Miley, Shannessa , Kelce, Kobe, Levi, Savanna, Aubrea, and Lily Ann. She is also survived by brothers: Dale (Jenny) Fonley, Doyle (Marilyn) Fonley, and Donny (Dee) Fonley; and many other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, brother Bud, and sisters Darlene and Norma Jean.
I am so sorry to hear about the loss. I know how hard this is from just going through this with Dad in November. Hoping knowing that she is now at peace and in heaven with Dad, her parents and siblings will bring you come comfort. My thoughts and prayers are with the family.
