Margaret “Marge” (Eibs) Gilbertson

Margaret “Marge” (Eibs) Gilbertson age 77 of Lucan entered eternal rest on Wednesday, October 6, 2010 at Avera Morningside Heights Care Center in Marshall.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 16 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Vesta.

Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.  Inurnment is in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Lucan.  Memorials are preferred to any cancer foundation of the donor’s choice.  The Redwood Valley Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Margaret (Eibs) Gilbertson was born September 9, 1933 in Marshall, Minnesota to Carl and Catherine (Richters) Eibs.  She was baptized 4 weeks after her birth, and was confirmed on March 30, 1947 both at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Marshall.  She attended Marshall Public Schools, graduating in 1951.  On July 14, 1951 Margaret was united in marriage to Edwin Gilbertson in Marshall, Minnesota.  From the time Margaret and Eddie were married, they lived on a farm place north of Lucan.  Margaret worked on the farm helping Eddie, even driving tractor when needed.  She worked for a number of years at Wallace Photo Studio in Marshall retouching photos, and later worked for Western Community Action as a driver.  Margaret played organ for many years at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lucan.  She served as Secretary for the Historical Society of Lucan and was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Vesta.  In the fall of 2009, she underwent surgery for lung cancer.  She was able to stay at home on the farm until August of 2010, when it was found that the cancer had spread. She then moved to Morningside Heights Care Center in Marshall.  Margaret enjoyed visiting with friends and family, baking, playing cards and Scrabble.  She loved to share and care, and was always interested in the welfare of others.

She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Edwin, infant daughter Peggy Jo, and two brothers, and two half-sisters.
