Maynard Horkey, age 59, of Westbrook passed away Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at Golden Living Center in Slayton.
Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday at Grace Lutheran Church in Westbrook.
Visitation is one hour prior to services at the church. Interment is in Westbrook Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society or organization of the donor’s choice. Stephens Funeral Service – Westbrook Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Maynard Glen Horkey was born May 12, 1952 in Westbrook to Elmer and Hattie (Kuehl) Horkey. He was the ninth of eleven children. Maynard was baptized and confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church in Westbrook. He attended school in Westbrook. Maynard helped on the family farm. He worked several years for Melvin Rachuy and also Harris Byers. Maynard worked at the Westbrook Elevator, retiring in 1997 due to declining health. He enjoyed tinkering with small motors, listening to the radio, and watching television.
Maynard is survived by his siblings: Lois Huerkamp (Willard Steffen) of Janesville, JoAnn Mead of Windom, Mike (Nancy) Horkey of Heron Lake, Russell Horkey of Westbrook, Larry Horkey of Westbrook, and Joyce Voelker of Windom; and several nephews, nieces, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Richard and Arlan Horkey, and sisters Bernice and Violet Grunewald.
