Katherine “Kathy” Ann (Schmidt) Kirk was born December 15, 1957 in Minneapolis, MN to Marvin and Florence (Luepke) Schmidt. She was baptized at Christ Lutheran Church in Minneapolis and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Springfield. Kathy graduated from Belview High School in Belview in 1975. Kathy was united in marriage to Joe Kirk on December 5, 1981 at Grace Lutheran Church in Belview. A blessing of three children, Stephanie Ann, Eric Joseph, and Stacey Jo, were born to this union. She worked various jobs through the years, most recently at Warner Manufacturing in Sacred Heart. Her greatest achievement and pride and joy in life was raising her children and watching them grow into caring, responsible adults, now with families of their own. She also took great pride and joy in her grandchildren and never believed for once that you could spoil them too much or too often. Gardening was her other love, be it vegetable or flowers, they were both a wonder and beauty to her.

Surviving Kathy is her husband, Joe of Sacred Heart; children: Stephanie (Brian) Trevor and Connor Peterson of Sacred Heart, Eric (Samantha) Kirk of Sacred Heart, and Stacey (Will) Teagan and Trenton Balfany of Granite Falls. Also surviving is her mother, Florence Anderson of Belview; siblings Harlan, Charles, and Jacky Schmidt all of Belview; sister-in-law Deb Schmidt of Redwood Falls; brother-in-law Roy Pharr of Sacred Heart; and nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her father Marvin, sister Deb Pharr, and brothers Rick, Ken, and John (in infancy). Blessed be her memory.
