Melvin Chester Kline, son of Willet and Laura (Bucholz) Kline was born December 8, 1916 in Beaver Falls Township, MN. He lived on a farm two miles northwest of Morton for several years before moving to Morton. Bud attended school in Morton for five years, then moved north of Beaver Falls for three years, before moving to the Johnson farm north of Franklin and finishing school in 1932. Bud farmed with his parents until 1938 when he married Maybelle Oldenburg on October 19 in Franklin. Four children were born to the couple. They farmed for 40 years retiring in 1980. Maybelle passed away April 30, 2011 and Bud moved to Waconia to be closer to his daughter. Bud was a dedicated farmer at heart. He never moved far from his birth place. The couple joined the Zion Lutheran Church in 1940 where Bud was active in church activities. The last years were spent at the trailer on Green Lake fishing and visiting with neighbors there. Bud helped on the farm at times. He enjoyed mowing in the summer and blowing snow in the winter. He traveled throughout the United States between 1980 and 1990. Bud loved woodworking, playing cards in the evenings, and visiting with family and friends.
