Linda Kyes
Linda Lou Kyes age 64 of Westbrook, formerly of Windom and Belle Plaine, passed away Friday, November 25, 2011 at the Westbrook Good Samaritan Care Center after an extended illness with Alzheimer’s Disease.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday at Grace Lutheran Church in Westbrook.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church Friday. A private family burial will be held in Belle Plaine at a later date. Linda was born July 29, 1947 in Windom, MN to Gordon and Edna (Karo) Horkey. She was baptized at First Lutheran Church in Dundee and was confirmed at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Windom. Linda graduated from Windom High School. She worked at Fingerhut in Windom, and at Campbell’s Soup in Worthington before moving to Minneapolis where she met Mike Kyes. On July 8, 1972, the couple was united in marriage at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Windom. Together they lived in Fridley and later Belle Plaine. Linda helped Mike in his business doing billing and paperwork. Mike passed away on June 13, 2001. Linda continued living in Belle Plaine before moving to Peterson Estates in Westbrook. She later moved to Pine View in Windom where she lived a couple years before entering Westbrook Good Samaritan Care Center on June 1, 2010. Linda was active in her church. She enjoyed making ceramics, traveling, and watching ice skating. She loved spending time with her family, especially the grandchildren. Linda also enjoyed maintaining her house, yard and gardens, and collecting dolls and nutcrackers.
Linda is survived by her children: Michelle (Greg) Whiting of Garrison, MN, Corey Kyes of Minneapolis and Chris Kyes of Minneapolis; four grandchildren: Devon, Abigail, Cameron & Stephanie; step granddaughter Bobbi Jo; mother Edna Horkey of Westbrook; brothers: Charles (Marsha) Horkey of South Sioux City, NE, Rick (June) Horkey of Washington, and Ronald (Angie) Horkey of Westbrook; and many other relatives and friends. Preceding her in death are her father Gordon, husband Mike, brother Cicero, and an infant brother.
