Barbie Jean Skogstad was born on April 5, 1959, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to Beverly (Lohmar) Ankrum and Robert Skogstad, and was also lovingly raised by John Ankrum who loved her as his own. At the age of 17, Barbie moved with her family to Redwood Falls, where she made her home for the rest of her years. Life blessed Barbie with five children, who were the center of her world. A dedicated and hardworking woman, she spent many years serving others, working as a waitress at Tin Street Café and The Hut, as well as working in turkey barns and pig farms. Later, she owned Jimmy’s Pizza for a short time, worked at MorPork, served as a housekeeper at Jackpot, and eventually returned to MorPork, where she remained until her health forced her to retire. Barbie enjoyed hosting Home Interior Parties and prioritized keeping up with the lives and activities of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She cherished being anywhere they were. Her home was her pride and joy, a place she was always tending to with projects both inside and out. She loved crocheting, painting, gardening—especially tending to her roses—canning, and camping or spending quiet time outdoors. She loved watching soap operas, even up to her last days. A true animal lover, her dogs held a very special place in her heart.
Barbie is survived by her children: Jenn (Jami) Panitzke & James Domeier, both of Redwood Falls, Lori (Jim) Jenniges of Seaforth & Jessica (Mitchell) Kottschade of Vesta; grandchildren: Jaden (Trinity) Van Hee, Keelie (Kyle) Lechner, Ella Van Hee, Chloe & Colton Panitzke, Tyler, Hailey & Joe (Kaitlyn Loftus) Domeier, Kendra, Dominic & Kylee Jenniges, Jayce & Elyanna Panitzke, and Bechyn & Lilly Kottschade; great-grandchildren: Haidyn, Haddie, Asher, Ariyah & Madelyn; siblings: Janay Donaldson & Scott Gokey; special friends Butch Jensen and Gene Eisel; and many other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, daughter Tabitha, sister Anne Estes, brothers Kenny and Robert (Geri) Skogstad, special friend Steve Domeier, and special dog Tasha.
