Carol Mae Rasmussen passed on to her heavenly home on May 20, 2026 at the Olivia Restorative Care Center in Olivia, MN with her family by her side. Carol was 76 years of age and had been residing in Redwood Falls with her husband Leon. Visitation will be held 4pm – 7pm Monday, June 1st at the Redwood Valley Funeral Home in Redwood Falls. Visitation will continue 12:30pm – 1:30pm Tuesday, June 2nd at the funeral home and a Celebration of Life will begin at 1:30pm with interment to follow at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Redwood Falls. Stephens Funeral Service – Redwood Valley Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Carol Mae (Bagdons) Rasmussen was born on December 23, 1949 to Chester and Marian (Sillanpaa) Bagdons. Carol grew up in her hometown of Wadena, MN where she later graduated high school. Carol married Leon Rasmussen on February 24th, 1968 at the Assemblies of God Church in Wadena. The couple resided in Wadena for many years where they were blessed with children Randy, Leanne and Lee. The couple moved with their children to the family farm in Sebeka where they were blessed with their son Aaron. In the years to follow; Carol and Leon lived in New Ulm and Redwood Falls before moving to Mankato for many years. Carol was blessed to be a stay-at-home mother during her children’s school years, a job which she cherished deeply. Later in life, Carol worked at Walmart in Redwood Falls and Mankato. After retirement Carol and Leon returned to Redwood Falls to be closer to family.
Carol loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. Carol enjoyed traveling over the years, especially her beloved trips to Grand Marais. Carol had a passion for scrapbooking, taking pictures, flower gardening and spending time with the love of her life, Leon. Carol was a woman of faith and from a young age had accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. Carol always offered a prayer for her loved ones and those in need. Carol had a beautiful soul that reflected on everything she did and those around her. She will be missed dearly by family and friends.
Carol is survived by her husband of 58 years Leon; children: Leanne (Steven) Kaufenberg; Lee (Tonya Haas) Rasmussen; grandchildren: Zachary Kaufenberg, Emma Kaufenberg, Samuel Kaufenberg; Darion-Miller Ahrens, Collin Rasmussen, Breonna Rasmussen; Kayla (Braxton) Kerkhoff, Ethan Rasmussen; Nick Rasmussen, and Kristen (Zach) Zernechel; great grandchildren: Londann Verdoes; Lainey Zernechel, Carson Zernechel; Bryson Kerkhoff; with another great grandchild on the way; many relatives and friends.
Carol was preceded in death by her sons Randy and Aaron Rasmussen, parents Chester and Marian Bagdons, sisters and brothers-in-law Darlene and Gene Hosner, Bonnie and Robert Tapley, in-laws Ellis and Bernice Rasmussen, brother-in-law Sheldon Rasmussen and niece Shanna Tuinstra.
