He was baptized on October 7 at Zion Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes and confirmed at Peace Evangelical Church in Echo. Donald, along with his twin brother Ronald and nine older siblings, grew up in Echo Township. He attended country school and then went to Echo Public School from fourth grade through high school. Don’s first job was bailing straw for ADM Flax Straw Division. He married Joyce Cole at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Belview on August 6, 1966. After moving back home to Delhi, he worked for one year at Redwood Ready Mix. He later returned to the Delhi Elevator, where he remained until retirement in 2011. Don certainly saw many changes in the farming and elevator industries, during his tenure with the elevator. He served in the Army National Guard for four years. He was Mayor for many years and served on the Delhi City Council. Don was a member of the Belview American Legion and served on the church council for Our Savior’s Lutheran Church.
