Douglas “Doug” Lackie, age 66 of Milroy, passed away Sunday, March 24, 2024 at Encompass Health in Sioux Falls. Visitation will be held from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 2, 2024 at Tracy Area Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Stephens Funeral Service – Tracy Area Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Douglas “Doug” James Lackie was born August 29, 1957 in Westbrook, Minnesota to James and Norma (Rank) Lackie. He grew up around Westbrook for a few years before moving to Milroy. Doug attended Milroy Public School, where he graduated in 1975. He went on to attend Minnesota West in Pipestone and obtained his degree in meat cutting. Doug worked for Schwan’s for 10 years and absolutely loved getting to know everyone on his route. Even after he no longer worked there he could be heard pointing and saying “I use to deliver ice cream to them.” Doug started working at the Milroy Public school as head custodian and drove school bus for 22 years. He loved everything about his job, kids adored him and their safety on the school bus was his top priority. After retiring from Milroy Public school, Doug worked for USPS for a few years. He would deliver mail and also would drive around with a box of dog treats for each house that he had to stop at that had a dog. Out of all the jobs and responsibilities he had his favorite one was being a father to his two children, Andrew and Bailey. He loved them more than anything. He took the title as Dad to a whole new level. Doug never missed a minute of them growing up, and never missed an opportunity to tell them how proud he was and how much he loved them. Coming in at a close second to the things Doug loved was his dogs; he talked about his dogs and children to whomever would listen. Doug loved all sports. He played baseball, basketball, football, and summer league softball. He was a diehard Minnesota sports fan even though they tend to disappoint once in a while. When Doug wasn’t working he could be found driving around looking at the wildlife with one of his dogs or at some small town baseball game enjoying a couple hamburgers. Doug cherished his life and lived for his children and friends. His sense of humor was like none other and his smile and laugh were contagious. If you’d let him he would talk your ear off for hours. He truly was one of a kind.

Doug is survived by his children: Andrew Lackie and Bailey Lackie and their significant others; grandchildren: Liam and Aspen; and so many friends and family. He is preceded in death by his parents, James and Norma Lackie; grandparents, he loved so much, Robert & Alma Rank and Andrew & Mini Lackie.
