Douglas Arthur Kuehl, age 84 of Westbrook, passed away Saturday, August 19, 2023 at Maple Lawn Senior Care in Fulda. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 25, 2023 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Westbrook. Visitation will be 4:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday, August 24 at Westbrook Funeral Home. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at church on Friday. Interment will be in the Westbrook Cemetery. 

Douglas Arthur Kuehl was born the sixth child of Arthur and Erma (Christensen) Kuehl November 7, 1938 on the family farm in Des Moines River Township, Murray County, Minnesota. He received his first eight years of education in country school District 108. Doug was involved in his local 4H.  When he was 13 years old he received reserve grand champion with his litter of Poland hogs. He served in the U.S. Army from 1956-1958 and was stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska. While he served he earned his GED and continued his education at Midwest Trade School in California for auto transmission in 1960. Doug returned to Minnesota in 1961 and worked at Klasse Sales and Service in Westbrook. On August 10, 1963, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Weis. In 1964, the couple moved to Bridgewater, SD and Doug worked as a mechanic at a Ford garage for two years and he was also a pin setter at the local bowling alley. The couple returned to Westbrook in 1966 and began farming in 1971. Doug and Dorothy bought an acreage southwest of Westbrook in 1969, where they raised their two sons, Scott and Monte. Upon retirement from farming, the couple moved into Westbrook in 2007. Doug then entered Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Fulda on November 4, 2021. Doug was a lifetime member of the Westbrook VFW. Doug had an entrepreneurial spirit and was active in many ventures including mechanic work, farming, custom farming, selling livestock with his father, gardening and selling produce.  Doug also sold Conklin products and Handyman jacks, owned and operated a tree moving and stump grinding service, owned and operated the Dovray Manor and the Corral supper clubs.  He built and operated a car wash and storage units and owned vacation rentals in Branson, MO, plus numerous other jobs. Doug enjoyed going on many fishing trips with his buddies.  He also loved deer hunting with his sons for 35 years and his grandson and daughter-in-law in later years. Doug cherished the hours spent at his farm pond with his grandchildren fishing and giving 4-wheeler rides. He went on many car cruises with his classic cars and enjoyed riding his Harley in many parades. Doug and Dorothy loved traveling and enjoyed their many snowmobiling trips in the Black Hills and cruises to the Caribbean, Alaska, and Panama Canal. Doug lived life to the fullest and was a generous man.

Doug is survived by his wife Dorothy of 60 years; sons: Scott (Tami) of Nisswa & Monte (Susie) of Madison Lake; grandchildren: Gunnar (Sarah), Gage & Gillian; brother Vernell “Mike” Kuehl; and sisters: Darlene Jarmer, Rosemary Lewis & Gloria (Pete) Doyle. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Elwayne “Bud” (Fay) Kuehl, sisters Lavonne (Merle) Hamilton & Ardith (Bruce) Dostert, and siblings-in-law Janice Kuehl & Vernon Jarmer.
