Elizabeth “Betty” Schmidt, age 103 of Redwood Falls, passed away Tuesday, January 30, 2024 at Gil-Mor Manor in Morgan. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 5, 2024 at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Redwood Falls. Rosary will be said at 9:45 a.m. prior to visitation at the church. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Interment will be in the St. Catherine’s Catholic cemetery. Stephens Funeral Service – Redwood Valley Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. 

Elizabeth “Betty” Schmidt was born August 7, 1920 in Wabasso to Joseph and Margaret (Fuenffinger) Hammerschmidt. Betty was baptized and confirmed into the Catholic faith at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Wabasso. She attended Country School near Wabasso until the eighth grade. On November 28, 1939, she was united in marriage to Ralph Schmidt at St. Anne’s. They were blessed with 10 children. She was part of the Legion Auxiliary, the CCW, 4-H leader and volunteered at Senior Dining. She spent time in her garden and harvested the vegetables and fruits and canned them. Betty enjoyed baking and made fillings for pies. She worked for Baune’s Café making fresh pies and their sauerkraut and dumplings. Betty liked to play her harmonica and was a fan of the Minnesota Twins. Betty will be deeply missed.

Betty is survived by her children: Charles (Nancy) Schmidt; Phyllis (Cyril) Baune; Jim Schmidt; Sharon Simning; Jerry (Lavonne) Schmidt; Patricia Schmidt; Darold Schmidt; Mike Schmidt; Brenda Boklep; 27 grandchildren; 60 great grandchildren; 19 great great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Ralph, son Donald, 2 sisters, 5 brothers and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
