Emilie June was born on June 1, 1938, to Arthur and Frieda Holt of Echo, Minnesota. She was baptized on June 17, 1938 and confirmed into faith on May 25, 1952 at Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Echo. Being the only girl growing up with three brothers, she loved helping her dad repair shoes in his shop behind their house. She attended Echo High School, where she was a cheerleader and majorette. She also worked part-time at the Echo Enterprise as a type setter. Emilie graduated in 1957 and moved to Minneapolis in the fall where she attended Humboldt Institute. But you couldn’t take the girl out of the country for long. Emilie moved back home, and that’s when she met Eldon Kuehn at the dance hall in Sacred Heart. They spent their weekends going to dances and eventually the two were engaged to be married. Emilie and Eldon vowed to spend eternity together on June 4, 1960 in Echo, and had three beautiful children, Kim, Kevin and Kris. In 1967, the couple bought a farm west of Redwood Falls, where they built their lives and resided until Eldon passed away in 2018. The farm holds special memories that will always be cherished by their entire family. Emilie worked many different jobs in her life. In her early years, she worked at Bell Telephone Company as a switch-board operator. She went on to work at the Valley Supper Club where she was a waitress and hostess for many years. While she loved getting to know everyone in town, she was most famous for spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and could be found attending their many activities over the years. Grandma would tell you about her flower garden, while grandpa was out tilling the kohlrabies. In their retirement, Emmy and Eldon enjoyed traveling with their good friends, Jim and Judy Toth, including spending weekends at their cabin on Lake Florida, taking the cruise of a lifetime to Alaska, and a vacation to Hawaii. Saturday evenings revolved around attending service at St. John’s Lutheran Church, even after grandpa passed away. Every Friday, she drove to Wabasso to get her hair done at Audrey’s, followed by breakfast with her girl-friends at the Roadhouse.

Grandma Emmy was reunited with Grandpa Eldon in heaven on August 1, 2025 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota. She is survived by her children: Kim Vagle, Kevin (Pam) Kuehn and Kris (Mark) Kappes; grandchildren: Jessie Haas (Jake Weise), Jackie Vagle (Lee Vela), Jenna Vagle, Lance (Jill) Kuehn, Brittnee (Chris) Dawson, Derek (Lisa) Kuehn, Isaac Kuehn, Manda (Travis) Mueller, Nikki (Travis) Ardolf and Steph Jo (Jeff) Almendinger; great-grandchildren: Andrew (Addy), Brady, Ben, Claire, Brenden, Emily (Trent), Alivia (Cole), CJ, Burke (McKenna), Tegan, Brianne, Adalyn, Isabelle and Olena; great-great-grandchild Freya; brother Richard; sisters-in-law: Peggy, Shirley, and Wilma; brother-in-law Delbert (Sharrol) Kuehn; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Along with her husband, Emmy is preceded in death by her parents Frieda and Arthur, her brothers Carl and Lyle, sisters-in-law Kate and Lila, son-in-law Ron, lifelong friends Jim and Judy, many farm pets but most special to her was her little Raven, who we’re sure greeted her at the Rainbow Bridge.

Let us know when you get home, Grandma Emmy. Love you, Punkin.
