Gary Alan Sommervold was born July 20, 1952 to Elroy and Ardis (Cornelson) Sommervold in Duluth. He was baptized and confirmed at First Methodist Church in Duluth. Gary graduated from Ruthton High School in 1970. He was united in marriage to Pat Lickness on May 25, 1974 in Ruthton. Together they made their home in Tracy and had two children Alan and Patrick. Gary held many jobs throughout his life, but found joy as a custodian at Tracy Area Schools. Gary was an avid sports fan, loving to watch, discuss, and support his favorite teams: the Minnesota Twins, Vikings, and Timberwolves. Gary was passionate about music. He curated an expansive collection of Rock and Blues music. Gary was always willing to welcome people into his home to share a story, a song, a meal, or an opinion. The welcoming nature of his household made it a second home for many throughout the years. Gary loved being with his family and those he considered family, and he was especially fond of his grandchildren. Gary will be deeply missed.

Gary is survived by his wife of 45 years Pat; sons Alan (Laura) Sommervold of Minnetonka and Patrick (Cassie) Sommervold of Farmington; grandchildren Charlotte, Ingrid, Sophia, and Samuel Sommervold; siblings Barb (Steve) Snickers, Pat (Bill) McLain, Sandra (Gary) Wozniak, Jacque Kunze, Bob (Lin) Sommervold, Dan (Bev) Sommervold, Randy Sommervold, Linda Burch (Mac McGinty), and Jody (Penny) Sommervold; and many nieces, nephews, and other extended family. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law Ken Burch, and nephews Josh Sommervold and Brian Lickness.
