Jane Elvira (Sumption) Baumgard, of New Ulm, formerly of Marshall, passed away Monday, October 11, 2021 at Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm at the age of 71 years, 11 months and 19 days. Visitation will be held from 1:00-3:00 p.m. Saturday, October 23, 2021 at Redwood Valley Funeral Home with a prayer service at 3:00 p.m. A private burial for immediate family only will take place at Peace Lutheran Cemetery in Ruthton. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity of your choice, or plant a tree in Jane’s memory.

Jane Elvira Sumption was born October 22, 1949 in Tyler, Minnesota to Willard and Leona (Renken) Sumption.  She graduated from Ruthton High School in 1967, and furthered her education at Golden Valley Lutheran College, graduating in 1969. Jane held secretarial and administrative positions in Golden Valley, Brooklyn Center, Red Wing, Minneapolis, Lake Benton, Ruthton, Cottonwood, and Marshall. She was always dedicated to her work. In March 1975, Jane was united in marriage to Dale Baumgard at Peace Lutheran Church in Ruthton.  They were blessed with two children, Annalisa and Al.  They later divorced in 1993. Jane loved music, reading, needlepoint/crocheting, animals, and God’s creation. She was known for going out of her way to help people and make them feel special and remembered especially on their birthdays and anniversaries. Jane will always be remembered for her smile and sense of humor. 

Jane is survived by her children: Annalisa (Jeff) Funk of Bellevue, NE, and Al (Angie) Baumgard of Lafayette; grandchildren: Veronika & Jonathan Funk and Levi & Lucas Baumgard; siblings: Donna (Lew) Weeks of Marshall and Leann (Joel) Ebben of Blaine as well as nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.  She is preceded in death by her parents, Willard and Leona Sumption, and numerous relatives and friends.
