Visitation: 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Sunday, April 26 at Tracy Area Funeral Home and will continue one hour prior to the services at church on Monday

Janet “Jan” Katherine (Kampsen) Mickelson, age 83 of Belle Plaine, formerly of Tracy, passed away Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at Kingsway Senior Living in Belle Plaine. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 27, 2026 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Tracy. Visitation will take place 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Sunday, April 26 at Tracy Area Funeral Home and will continue one hour prior to the services at church on Monday. Burial will be in the Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Tracy. Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers. Stephens Funeral Service – Tracy Area Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Jan was born June 1, 1942, in Milwaukee, WI to Norbert and Lucille (Loch) Kampsen. She received the sacraments in the Catholic faith and graduated from Belgrade High School. Early in her career, she worked as a surgical tech at a hospital. On August 20, 1963, Jan married Richard Mickelson and together they built a partnership that spanned 62 years. Their journey took them from Minnetonka and Hutchinson before moving to Tracy in 1970. Jan loved being around people. Over the years, she contributed her talents to a variety of workplaces, most notably at the Red Rooster. Jan and Dick also owned Mick’s East Side, turning it into a beloved local gathering spot for cards, laughter, and good times. They cherished spending their summers in Bozeman, MT and escaping the cold with winters in Bullhead City, AZ. In 2002, Alexandria became their new home base. Jan loved the outdoors and spent summer days gardening, fishing and camping. She enjoyed playing games and pull tabs. She was on a bowling league as well as belonging to a Bridge Club.
Jan is survived by her children: Kim (Mark DeVetter) Mickelson, Amy (Jim) Milinkovich, Steve (Renee) Mickelson, and Deb (Dennis) Campbell; grandchildren: Brandon DeVetter, Chanel (Matt Shapiro) DeVetter, Tyler Kotek, Tanner Milinkovich, Abby Milinkovich, Jacob (Emilee) Milinkovich, Jared (Abby) Milinkovich, Brooke (Travis) Voss, Quincy (Mitchell) Preusse, Ryan (Carrie) Quinn, Lacey (Levi) Fultz, Corey (Victoria) Paul, and Brandy, Jager & Jayden Campbell; great-grandchildren: Kinley, Annabelle, Hank, Everly, Lane, Declan, Murphy, Aubree, Bennett, Boyer, Kellen & Maisyn; siblings: Roger (Hilde) Kampsen, Dennis (Rita) Kampsen, Marilyn (Don) Pommier, Sandra (John) Wehlage, Erma (Ronnie) Bertram, Alcuin (Mary) Kampsen, Brenda (Mark) Hoffke; Elmer VonWalde; and many other relatives & friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Richard, brother Bernard Kampsen and sister Shirley VonWahlde.
