JoAnn Sperl, age 89 of Redwood Falls, passed away, with loved ones at her side, on Saturday, May 30, 2026 at CentraCare St. Cloud Hospital. A private funeral service will be held. A public visitation will be held 5:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, June 4, 2026 at the Redwood Valley Funeral Home. Burial will be in St. Catherine Catholic Cemetery. Stephens Funeral Service – Redwood Valley Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

JoAnn Sperl was born March 9, 1937 in Vail Township, near Wabasso, Redwood County, Minnesota. She was the daughter of George and Dorothy (Boever) Guetter. She was baptized at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Wabasso and confirmed at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Sanborn. She graduated from St. Anne’s Catholic School in 1955 and furthered her education at St. Catherine’s University Department of Nursing, St. Mary’s Unit, where she graduated in 1958. On January 10, 1959, JoAnn was united in marriage to Robert Sperl at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Wabasso. JoAnn worked hard all her life caring for her family and others. She raised seven children, and loved spending time spoiling their offspring. She and Bob had several large gardens, and they grew various types of vegetables, specifically tomatoes. JoAnn also did a lot of canning and cooking, but baking was her favorite. When she had free time, she could be found knitting, embroidering, enjoying her dogs, feeding the birds and playing cards – mostly Solitaire and King’s Corner with her grandchildren. Along with raising her children, JoAnn was proud to be a Registered Nurse. She spent countless hours caring for others, whether it be a hand to hold and a back rub or a shoulder to cry on. She preferred to be called “Ma Sperl” because when you were in her care, you were family. Her kindness and compassion has touched many lives. JoAnn was steadfast in her Catholic faith, and you could often find a rosary in her hand while she prayed for someone, or while she was watching Mass on TV. As her family, we find comfort and peace knowing she has a seat at God’s Table.

JoAnn is survived by her son Douglas (Patti) Sperl and their sons James and Jordan Sperl; daughter Nancy Sperl and her sons Joseph (Autumn) Senger and Daniel (Jacqueline) Senger; son John (Denise) Sperl and their children John Jr (Chelsey Malecek) Sperl, Tom Sperl, Nicholas (Cassie) Sperl and Avery Sperl; deceased daughter Noreen’s children: Amanda (Daniel) Mahoney and Johnathon (Doug) Steenson; daughter Koleen Sperl and her daughter Mariah Terrell; daughter Joyce (Dan) Smith and their son Wyatt; daughter Sandy (David) Sperl; 7 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; and sister-in-law Margie Killmer. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert, daughter Noreen, brother Warren, and several sisters- and brothers-in-law.
