JoAnn R. Wehmeyer, age 78 of Westbrook, passed away Thursday, April 16, 2026 at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls. Memorial Services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Friday, April 24, 2026 at Westbrook Funeral Home. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the services at the funeral home on Friday. Burial will be in the Westbrook Cemetery in Westbrook. Stephens Funeral Service – Westbrook Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

JoAnn R. (Schoenenberger) Wehmeyer was born on July 7, 1947, in Windom, Minnesota, to Joseph and Evelyn (Schaffer) Schoenenberger. She was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith in Windom and graduated from Jeffers High School with the Class of 1966. On October 18, 1969, JoAnn married the love of her life, Dale L. Wehmeyer. Together they made their home in Windom, later moved to Storden, and eventually settled in Westbrook. JoAnn worked at several restaurants over the years, though her most cherished role was being a stay-at-home mom. She found her greatest joy in family – especially at gatherings, where she loved spending time with her grandchildren and spoiling her great-grandchildren. She enjoyed simple pleasures like visiting over coffee with friends, playing games on her tablet, knitting, sewing, playing cards, and completing puzzles. Gardening was especially rewarding to her, and she took pride in canning the produce she grew. JoAnn also had a special fondness for collecting angels, bells, and wind chimes. In quieter moments, she enjoyed watching Hallmark movies, soap operas, and game shows such as Wheel of Fortune, Family Feud, and The Price Is Right.

JoAnn is survived by her children: Sherri Vind of Westbrook, Sandra Schroeder of Tracy, Arnold (Rebecca Krogman) Wehmeyer of Lake Wilson, Dale A. Wehmeyer of Slayton & Chad (Cindy) Wehmeyer of Windom; grandchildren: Tanya (Sara) Schoenenberger, Cody (Holly) Wehmeyer, Nathan Wehmeyer, Troy (Ashley) Schoenenberger, Hollie Schroeder, Carly Wehmeyer, Chelsey Wehmeyer, Andrea Baumgartner, Nickolas Luitiens, Max Schroeder, Brianna (Brandon) Rasmussen, and Justin Krogman; 17 great-grandchildren; and several step-grand and great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers-in-law: Charles Schneider of Crystal, MN and Ralph (Geraldine) Wehmeyer of Lakefield; and many other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Dale, brothers: Donald (Donna) and Melvin (Shirley) Schoenenberger, son-in-law Carl Vind, a great-granddaughter, siblings-in-law: Fern Schneider, Fay (Orve) Berkness, Rodger Wehmeyer & Ruby (Jack) Roberts, parents-in-law Herman & Violet Wehmeyer, 2 nieces, and 5 nephews.
