Joyce Ewy, age 76 of Westbrook, passed away Wednesday, April 14, 2021 at Sanford Sioux Falls Medical Center.  Private family services will be held at a later date.  Stephens Funeral Service – Walnut Grove Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Joyce Ann Ewy was born October 13, 1944 to Jake and Ida (Janssen) Van Gelderen in Sibley, Iowa.  Her family moved to a farm near Walnut Grove, Minnesota in 1951.  Joyce graduated from the Walnut Grove High School in 1963 and then worked for Eastern Airlines.  She married Jon Ewy in 1965 and the couple lived near Westbrook, where Jon farmed.  Joyce was a florist by trade and by heart.  She worked in and owned flower shops for many of her adult years.  In later years, Joyce cared for her ailing parents.  You could often find Joyce gardening, decorating or baking pies.  She participated in the Holly Flower Club and Neighborhood Watch.  Joyce especially loved spending holidays with family and having coffee with her friends.  But, spending time with J.D. on the farm was her favorite pastime.

Joyce is survived by her son J.D. Ewy of Walnut Grove; siblings: Jean Johnson of Tucson, AZ, Jack (Vickie) Van Gelderen and Gary (Sue) Van Gelderen both of Walnut Grove; and many nieces, newphews, aunts, uncles and cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.
