Judith “Judy” Marie Backer, age 75 of Tracy formerly of Montevideo, passed away unexpectedly Monday, August 28, 2023 at Sanford Tracy Medical Center.  Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 31, 2023 at Tracy Area Funeral Home.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.  Interment will be in the Rock Valle Lutheran Cemetery rural Echo. 

Judith “Judy” Marie (Iverson) Backer was born February 15, 1948 to Melford and Anna (Odden) Iverson in Granite Falls, Minnesota. She was baptized at Rock Valle Lutheran Church on April 24, 1948 and was later confirmed there. Judy grew up in Sacred Heart and attended school in Echo. She married Bruce Treague and to this union two daughters were born, Brenda and Linda.  On November 10, 1975, she welcomed her daughter Carla while living in St. James. She later settled in Montevideo. She worked as a bartender most of her life.  On June 27, 1998, Judy married William “Bill” Backer, and he passed away February 13, 1999.  Judy was very devoted to her family and loved a good long conversation with them. Judy moved to Tracy to be closer to her family, and cherished the friendships she made at Twin Circles and Prairieview Senior Living.  She enjoyed completing puzzles and playing solitaire on her tablet. Judy loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great granddaughter. She was the most passionate spectator at all of their sporting events.

Judy is survived by her daughters: Brenda Treague, Linda Rham and Carla (Joe) Swenhaugen; grandchildren: Brett (Karlie), Noah, Kalli and Cade; great granddaughter Drew; siblings: Ode (Jean) Iverson and Julie (Larry Stewart) Iverson; nieces & nephews: Becky (Nick) Domeier, Shawn (Misty) Butler and Katrina (Ty) Savall. She is preceded in death by her parents and husband Bill.
