Kathleen “Kathy” Lynn (Grunden) Rykhus, age 66 of Lower Sioux Community, passed away peacefully at home Saturday, March 30, 2024. Memorial Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 6, 2024 at Lower Sioux (Cansayapi) Recreational Center. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Stephens Funeral Service – Redwood Valley Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. 

Kathleen “Kathy” Lynn (Grunden) Rykhus was born November 7, 1957 to James Leonard and Dorothy Marie (Bluestone) Grunden in Tracy, Minnesota. She attended Robbinsdale High School. Kathy married David Rykhus and they had three sons. In 1990 Kathy was reunited with her daughter Karla, who was given up for adoption. Kathy had various jobs. She was employed as an In-Care Home assistant in Redwood Falls and at Walmart. Kathy enjoyed her co-workers and being outdoors at Greenwood Nursery in Tracy. She also appreciated hard labor and was a member of the Wisdom Steps Group, a preventative health program for American Indian Elders, and the Lower Sioux Health Board. Kathy always had food and a coffee pot ready to feed the neighborhood. You could often find her with a cup of joe when on the phone with family and friends. Kathy’s grandchildren were her world.

Kathy is survived by her sons: Lee (Cindee), Bradley & Troy (Giselle) Rykhus; daughter Karla Seaberg; grandchildren: Victoria, Tyler, Noah and Owen; siblings: Alan (Mary) Grunden, Kim Amundsen & Teresa Johnson; step-mother Kay Grunden; and nieces, nephews and other loved ones. She is preceded in death by her father James, mother Dorothy, step-father Harlan Whipple; and brother-in-law David Amundsen.
