Michael “Mike” John Hansen was born on December 7, 1956 to John and Patricia (Nelson) Hansen at Tracy Hospital in Tracy, Minnesota. Mike graduated from Tracy High School in 1975. He lived in New Ulm for over 20 years before moving to Country View Senior Living in 2018. Then, in September of 2023, he moved to St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield. He worked at MRCI in New Ulm doing various assembly line jobs. Mike played volleyball at the Special Olympics, and they won a silver medal against Russia. He enjoyed tearing apart small engines and putting them back together. Mike could get those engines working again when others couldn’t. He had a sweet tooth; anything that contained sugar was his favorite treat! Mike adored red tractors. He collected all sorts of diecast Case IH tractors. He liked to stroll through the old car shows he attended in New Ulm and Springfield and talk about the hobby. That enjoyment extended to Farmers’ Markets and Consignment shops where he filled up his shop. When he received his motorized wheelchair, he was able to check on his shop, work on projects, and see what else was happening in the community.

Michael is survived by his siblings: David (Heidi) Hansen of Revere, Karen (Lee) Boril of Chanhassen, Thomas (Lynn) Hansen of Walnut Grove, Steven (Virginia) of Tracy & Daniel (Evan) of Minneapolis; brother-in-law John Schmidt; aunt Sandy Anderson; uncle Gerry Leonard; nieces and nephews: Amanda (Tim) Nichols & Tyler (Wendy) Hansen, Sarah (Dillon) Renneke, Christopher Zwach, Justin (Pilar) Boril, Nicole (Jason) Knopik, Paige (Brad) Pederson and Morgan Hansen; and many great nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Julie Schmidt, aunts and uncles: Delores (Bud) Sell, Kenny “Butch” Anderson, Mary Leonard & Roy (Lois) Hansen, and his grandparents.
