Ramona M. Potter, age 89 of Redwood Falls, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 23, 2025 at Garnette Gardens in Redwood Falls. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 28, 2025 at First United Methodist Church in Redwood Falls. Visitation will be 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Redwood Valley Funeral Home with an Eastern Star service at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at church on Wednesday. Interment is in Peace Memorial Gardens, rural Redwood Falls. Stephens Funeral Service – Redwood Valley Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Ramona “Monie” Marie (Keil) Potter was born November 26, 1935 in Redwood Falls, MN to Karl & Woneta (Keister) Keil. She was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith. Ramona attended country school in her younger years and then graduated from Lincoln High School in Redwood Falls in 1953 and was homecoming queen in 1952.
On April 17, 1955 Ramona was united in marriage to Daniel James Potter at the First English Lutheran Church in Redwood Falls. After their wedding, they began farming in Three Lakes Twsp east of Clements, they then moved to a farm in New Avon Twsp in December 1955, then to Redwood Falls Twsp in 1969 and continued to farm.
In her younger years she worked as a soda jerk in the local drug store and at the jewelry store. She was a farm wife and homemaker for many years, helping in the fields and cooking for all the hired men. After the kids were grown, she began working as a nurse’s aide and eventually as a CNA at Sunwood Care Center for many years, then worked for Public Health and would care privately for people in the community. Ramona enjoyed helping people.
Ramona was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, UMW, choir and youth leader at New Avon Methodist church, then Mary Circle at First United Methodist church. She was also a 4-H leader, involved in Extension group, and neighborhood birthday club with the ladies.
Ramona enjoyed traveling, collecting angels and cookbooks, baking cookies, knitting, playing the organ, gardening, planting flowers and chauffeuring Danny while he played Santa. She also had a great love for dogs. She loved having grandchildren and great grandchildren, but they had to call her Monie, NOT Grandma! She enjoyed attending the grandkids’ and great grandkids’ activities.
Ramona passed away peacefully at Garnette Gardens under hospice care, with her family by her side on Friday, May 23, 2025 at the age of 89.
Ramona is survived by her children: Jeff (Mary Beth) Potter, Roger (Donna) Potter and daughter Danette (Chris) Baker; grandchildren: Kelly (Shawn) Scheffler, Krysta (Steve) Schroeder, Nikki (Will) Hermanson, Nicole (Cody) Wardner, Ashley (Josh) Doll, Ross Potter, Kyle Stoermann, Tom Baker; and 16 Great-Grandchildren: Austin, Elyse, Iris, Oakley, Lyda, Harrison, Devany, Raulin, Welles, Royce, Henry, Bayle, Gunner, Reese, Sutton and Tagglyn.
Ramona is preceded in death by her parents, husband Danny of 51 years, brothers Rex & Ken Keil, in-laws Ken & Carol Potter, Marilyn & Bud Lau, Ethel Keil, grandson Darence “DJ” Potter in 1995 and daughter-in-law Sherry Potter in 1999.
