This fall we watched your series "Win the Wilderness." My husband and I were so impressed by the amazing things that you created on your mountain. What vision, talents, and work ethic! My husband and I wondered where you all decided to spend your retirement and we were so saddened to see that Rena has passed. To spend 3 decades in almost only each other's company must make the parting that much more intensely sad, difficult, etc. Our thoughts are with Duane. Thank you for sharing your lives and the beauty of your home through the show.

Siento mucho su perdida, tras ver el programa siento como si la conociera. Una mujer increíble, con su fuerza y su gran carácter me recordó tanto a mí abuela. Que la tierra le sea leve.

I just finished watching your show on Netflix- what a wonderful story. Rena was a strong and devoted wife and I loved her laugh. I was so sorry to hear of her passing. My thoughts are with you Duane, as well as your extended family.

What a wonderful life both Duane and Rena made for each other, true love and dedication for each other helped them to survive the wilderness alone. An absolute inspiration to all! It was so sad to see them leave their home, I don’t think anyone could imagine how hard that must have been after everything they had built, but, knowing they had no option due to deteriorating health and old age. I’m so sorry to learn Rena passed away so soon after they left, Duane must be devastated. I send Duane and the family my deepest condolences and hope he can continue to smile with all the memories him and Rena made together x

Just finished watching the show and couldn't believe when looking up the story online and seeing Rena died. This is so upsetting, after leaving a place that you love so much and you pass away. It's almost like when people retire and they pass away. I feel for Duane, so much. After all they had been thru. May Rena RIP.

Just saw the last episode of Win The Wilderness . As we approached this episode I felt a tear coming forth watching Duane bend down to the ground, and I thought I hope Rene and Duane have many more years together in the new environment which will be so different and not as home with nature. I admire the dedication they both had and the courage and strength they felt living their dream existence, and the ability to be away from common society. I have too many fears to live in such remote places, but truly love the scenery and the fact that they did it their way. My deepest condolences and sadness as I learned right after watching this episode that Rene died due to complications of her heart condition/surgery. I was so saddened by this it stayed with me when i work up in the morning and I want to extend to Duane, comfort as he continues on his own, without the love of his life, by his side. Rene is missed by so many, and I wish you time to transition through this chapter, with the knowledge that you were true to yourselves and had something so special that many people have never experienced. She was a touch lady, and when she looked at someone with a very serious expression, it could be intimidating, but under that look there was the sweetest, funniest person that you two had to have some amazing times .You are both an inspiration to others. To Honesty. To Believing in yourself, and to respecting mother nature. Blessings and peace be with you, Sandy Alexander Canada

Dearest Duane, My husband and I watched Win the Wilderness two weeks ago. He and I are a lot like you and Rena as we like to build our own homes, do our own thing. However I was amazed at all you two did. There is no way I would even begin to think of how hard, but enjoyable, that must have been; so satisfying to see all you accomplished. My heart goes out to you during your loss. Rena has been your total world for the last 40 years and I'm sure you are feeling incredibly empty. -- I just bought and received Book I and II. My husband is reading I as I write this. -- I fell in love with you two during the series and have recommended it to friends and family. I didn't tell them though that I literally could not straighten my face for crying during the last five minutes :(. -- I will request your friendship on Facebook so that I can keep up with you. Please take care, and again, my sincere condolences. Scott & Terri Hall, Monroe, GA

My husband and I just finished watching the show. Rena and Duane were so sweet and no doubt truly loved each other. We live on 5 acres in the country in TEXAS. We had a custom home built in 2011 and my husband is 71 and I am 65. I want to move back to town but he loves every inch of this little paradise. After watching Duane and Rena I think I’m just going to stop looking to move and stay here for his happiness. I cried and cried watching them leave. Truly a wonderful show. RIP Rena you will be missed.

Rest In Peace. I just recently watched Win the Wilderness and felt a strong connection with Mrs. Ose. Her accomplishments and hard work were truly admirable. Rena lived her life in her own way on her own terms. It was never easy I’m sure, but who among us have so many physical reminders of our productivity and creativity? I only knew of her, however, she greatly impacted my life and because of her I now know how I want my life to play out...on my own terms. Thank you for that Rena, may God continue to bless your loved ones.
