Ricky Byers, age 68 of Dovray, passed away Thursday, February 19, 2026 at Our House Hospice of Murray County with family at his side. Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 27, 2026 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Dovray. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at church on Friday. Interment will be in Our Savior’s Lutheran Cemetery in Dovray at a later date. Stephens Funeral Service – Westbrook Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Ricky Byers was born June 9, 1957 in Westbrook, Minnesota. He was baptized in the Methodist faith and confirmed at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Dovray. Ricky attended grade school in Currie and graduated from Westbrook High School. After high school, he furthered his education at Granite Falls Vo-Tech, studying Fluid Power. Ricky moved to Salt Lake City, UT where he worked in the Fluid Power industry for 17 years. In 1993, he returned to the Dovray area to begin farming. On June 28, 1997, he married the love of his life, Dawn Taylor, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Dovray. Together they raised their son, Joseph. Ricky was an active member of the Dovray Area Boosters and the Westbrook Area Cruisers Car Club, where he proudly enjoyed driving “The Fords.” Each year he planted a large garden and grew an impressive crop of sweet corn. Alongside Steve Anderson, he co-founded A & B Sweet Corn, faithfully delivering their fresh corn to many loyal customers over the years. His favorite place to be was Lake Shetek, where he enjoyed boating, and spending time with family. Ricky lived a life well-loved and he will be deeply missed.

Ricky is survived by his wife Dawn; son Joseph; grandsons: Andrew & Myles; parents: Joyce & Stanley Severson; mother-in-law Louise Taylor; siblings: Mark (Robyn) Byers, Tim (LeAnn) Byers, Cindy (Tim) Ketzenberg, Julie Byers, Susan (Bill) Schmitz, Todd (special friend Tricia) Severson; sisters-in-law: Paula, Terri, Nicole & Tori; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, & friends galore. He is preceded in death by his grandparents Harley & Helen Hollingsworth and Stanley & Verna Severson, father-in-law Charles Taylor, and niece Jamie Byers.
