Rita Schmidt, age 85 of Westbrook, passed away Tuesday February 6, 2024 at Good Samaritan Society – Westbrook with her family by her side. Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 16, 2024 at Westbrook Funeral Home. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Westbrook Cemetery. Stephens Funeral Service – Westbrook Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Rita was born December 31, 1938 to Doyle and Margaret (Larson) Myers in Story County, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Radcliffe, IA. Rita was a 1957 graduate of Radcliffe High School. She married Wayne Ott in June 1957 at the same church. To this union her daughter Debra was born. Wayne died in February 1987. On November 13, 1988 she married Robert “Bob” Schmidt and they made their home in Westbrook. Rita worked various jobs around the Westbrook area. Her last job was Rockin Granny where she rocked babies at the school. She enjoyed going out to breakfast or lunch with her friends, rummage sales, watching tv and visiting with her grandchildren and great grandchildren on the phone. Rita loved going to the gym to work out. She especially liked traveling and taking bus trips. She was the hostess for the Reading Bus Company for chartered trips.

Rita is survived by her daughter Debra (Jose) Bonilla of Westbrook, grandchildren: Christene (Eddie) Clark of Tea, SD, Joey (Tamara) Brown of Sanborn, Anton Bejarano of Jackson and Marshall Bejarano; great grandchildren: Desiree, Adreanna, Diego, Ava; Julian & Jorga; Tyson, Andy, Sophia & Anton Jr; Anah, Ayden, Isiah & Elijah; 4 great great grandchildren: Carter, Carsyn, Grayson and Laela; Bob’s children: Kathy, Carrie, Tom, Carolyn, Joseph & Jon; siblings: Dwayne (Betty) Fosseen of Kansas City, KS, Marcy (Denny) Chaussee of Ames, IA; and many other relatives & friends. She is preceded in death by husbands Wayne & Bob.

Rita said, “I’ve lived a good life. Let this be a celebration of my life.”
