Wava Elvira (Carlson) Vickerman was born on Dec 20, 1930, in Slayton, Minnesota to Oscar and Violet (Coyle) Carlson. She was baptized and confirmed at the Congregational Church in Garvin. Wava attended country school near Lake Sarah and graduated from Tracy High School in 1948. While in high school, she met James “Jim” Vickerman and the high school sweethearts were married on April 5, 1950, at the Garvin Congregational Church. They enjoyed 70 years of marriage together, and she missed him greatly after his death on January 19, 2021. The couple lived and farmed near Tracy. Wava loved life on the farm and helped by driving tractor and mowing lawn. She stayed busy raising her children and was a 4H leader. Wava was a go-getter and a hard worker. She loved gardening and enjoyed the fruits of her labor all year long by canning and freezing produce. Wava baked delicious chocolate chip cookies and cinnamon rolls. Once her children were grown, Wava worked at the school as a teacher’s aide; a job she deeply loved. She was proud of Jim’s career serving as a state Senator, and she supported him every step of the way. In her spare time, she loved to play cards and travel. She was a devoted member of Tracy United Methodist Church for over 60 years and was active in UMW. Wava was always willing to help her children with anything they needed. She adored her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Wava is survived by her children: Steve (Pat) Vickerman of Tracy, Karen (Steve) Halter of Andover, Jill (Patrick) Jopp of Elk River, & Kent (Julie) Vickerman of Salt Lake City, UT; son-in-law Tim Weinzetl of Topsham, ME; grandchildren: Aaron, Jason, Jessica, Kari, Erica, Amanda, Troy, Brandon, Ashley, Karli, Jadie, Brianna, Grant & Amber; great grandchildren: Illyana, Anna, Eli, Lexie, Kingsley, Brixton, Corrigan, Porter, Harper, Baylor, Brooks, Joelle, Kennedy, Cooper & Iyla; sister-in-law Mary Carlson; and many nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.  She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Jim, daughter Peggy Weinzetl, son Scott Vickerman, brothers: Wayne, Willard and Wesley Carlson, and sister Wilma Gray.
