Florence Dorothy Schliemann age 92 of Franklin passed away Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at Seasons Hospice House in Redwood Falls.  Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 16 at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Franklin.  Visitation is 4:00-7:00 p.m. Friday at the church and will continue one hour prior to services on Saturday.  Private family burial in the Franklin Cemetery will be at a later date.  Stephens Funeral Service – Redwood Valley Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Florence Dorothy Schliemann was born June 27, 1920 on the family farm south of Springfield, MN to Albert and Laura (Tietz Ziegenhagen) Schultz.  She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.  Florence attended country school near Springfield.  On August 31, 1938 she was united in marriage to Milburn Schliemann at Zion Lutheran Church in Morgan in a double wedding with Sylvester and Agnes Schultz.  The couple farmed in the Franklin area and moved into town after several years of farming.  They owned and operated “The Coffee Cup”.  Florence was a foster mother caring for many children over the years.  She worked as head cook for many years for the Franklin Nursing Home after it opened, and also worked at a variety of restaurants in Redwood Falls and Fairfax.  Florence later worked as a cook at the Franklin School until she retired.  The couple were in charge of the Lions pancake breakfast during Catfish Derby Days.  Florence was a longtime member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church where she was active in Ladies Aid.  She enjoyed gardening, cooking, and baking.  Florence loved spending time with her family.

Florence is survived by her children Pat (Mrs. Jim) Barnes of Franklin and Nancy (Galen) Prairie of Cottonwood; foster son Roger Reek of Franklin; daughter-in-law Darlene Schliemann of Golden Valley; grandchildren: Michael (Tammy) Barnes, Nicole Schliemann, Chad (Carrie) Schliemann, Jacob Schliemann, Zeb Prairie, and Melia (Sam) Ogrodnik; 6 great grandchildren; sister Ann Schroeder of Sauk Rapids; sister-in-law Gloria Montgomery of Rochelle, IL; and many other relatives and friends.  She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Milburn, son Charles, son-in-law Jim Barnes, one brother, two half brothers, one half sister, one step brother, and one step sister.
