Gerald “Jerry” A. Sullivan age 69 of Morton passed away on Monday, June 7, 2010 at the Redwood Area Hospital.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 10 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Morton.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. AT THE CHURCH, with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m.  Visitation will continue one hour prior to service at the church on Thursday.  Interment is in Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Morton. The Redwood Valley Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Jerry Sullivan was born June 20, 1940 on the family farm in Birch Cooley Township, near Morton, MN, the son of Benedict and Marie (Eisenbarth) Sullivan.  He was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Catholic Church in Morton.  He graduated from Morton High School in 1958, and went on to attend St. Thomas University, graduating in 1962 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science.  He furthered his education with 2 years of Mitchell Law School in the Twin Cities.  Jerry joined the US Army Reserves where he served for 2 years before receiving his medical discharge.  He then returned to his hometown and worked in the insurance field.  On August 21, 1974, Jerry was united in marriage to Beverly Anderson at St. Mary’s Convent Chapel in Bird Island.  Together the couple made their home in Morton where they raised 3 boys and 2 girls.  Jerry was a licensed Pyrotechnician for over 25 years and assisted with the Morton fireworks every 4th of July.  He was also a certified instructor of firearms for the DNR.  Jerry was very active in the Renville County DFL, the Jaycees, Morton Lions Club, Morton City Council, RADC, 4-H, American Legion, and the Morton Fire Department.  He enjoyed fishing, especially his Walleye fishing trips to Canada; and hunting, especially Elk hunting in Colorado where he also served as a Guide.  Jerry loved working with area youth through the 4-H program, specifically in Shooting Sports.

Jerry is survived by his wife Bev Sullivan of Redwood Falls; children: Kimberly of Eagan, John (Monica) of Russell, Katrina of Redwood Falls, Daniel (Christine) of Olivia, and Matthew of Redwood Falls; grandchildren: Kale, Collin, Harley, Natalie, Connor, Caden, and Olivia; mother, Marie Sullivan of Redwood Falls; 13 siblings: Veronica Hecht of Battle Lake, Stephen (Jean) Sullivan of Rochester, Dennis (Patty) Sullivan of Farmington, Pat (Cindy) Sullivan of Coon Rapids, Kathy Sullivan (John Mitchell) of Virginia, Mary Sullivan (James Kanne) of Franklin, David (Debbie) Sullivan of Kasson, Rich (Linda) Sullivan of Belview, Kevin (Dorie) Sullivan of Burnsville, Jeanie (George) Meinz of St. Cloud, Donna (Mike) Barrett of St. James, Betty Sullivan of Alaska, & Theresa (Bob) Noyes of Porter; and numerous other relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by his father Ben, infant brother Francis Timothy, and nephew Joey.
