Hazel V. Takle
Hazel V. Takle, 95, of Walnut Grove, died Saturday, April 9, 2011 at the Janesville Nursing Home, Janesville, MN.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday April 15 at English Lutheran Church in Walnut Grove, with visitation one hour prior to services. Interment will follow in the Walnut Grove Cemetery. Stephens Funeral Service – Walnut Grove Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Hazel V. (Nelson) Takle was born August 22, 1915 in rural Ann Township, Cottonwood County, MN to Jacob and Amanda (Thesen) Nelson. She was baptized and confirmed at Old Westbrook Lutheran Church. She married John H. Takle on December 21, 1935 at the Lutheran Parsonage in Walnut Grove, MN. They farmed the Takle family homestead in Ann Township, Cottonwood County, MN until 1982 when they retired and moved to Walnut Grove. They loved to travel and were fortunate to have visited Norway, Alaska and many places in the U.S. Hazel loved to sew and quilt, crochet and knit, made wonderful pies that her husband, John dearly loved, and she made and decorated wedding cakes. She also loved to play bingo, bowl, play cards and go dancing. Hazel had a delightful sense of humor and a ready smile.
She is survived by three children: Joan (John) Finitis, Foxboro, MA, Annette (Cliff) Gardner, Janesville, MN, and Harris Takle, of Worthington, MN; five grandchildren: Craig (Michelle) Lewis, Peperelle, MA, Barbara Coe, No. Attleboro, MA, Susan Gardner, Lawrence, KS, Kathy (Ted) Martin, Minneapolis, MN and Dan (Deb) Gardner, Edina, MN; ten great-grandchildren: Corey Lewis, Taylor Lewis, Brittany Lewis, Jonathan Coe, Hannah Coe, Sam Fellin, Charles Martin, Sophia Martin, Gabrielle Gardner and Claire Gardner. Hazel is preceded in death by her husband on March 7, 2001, two brothers and five sisters. She was the last remaining relative of her generation, both in the Nelson family and the Takle family.
