Wilbur A. Oberg age 84 of Walnut Grove passed away suddenly Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at Sanford Tracy Medical Center.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 20 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Walnut Grove.
Visitation is 5:00-8:00 p.m. Friday at the Walnut Grove Funeral Home and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday. Burial is in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Wilbur Arthur Oberg was born February 18, 1929 in Shelburne Township, Lyon County, Minnesota to Arthur and Emma (Stuck) Oberg. He was baptized at Sillerud Lutheran Church, rural Balaton and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Walnut Grove. Wilbur attended country school District 68 near Florence through the 3rd grade. The family moved to Walnut Grove in 1938. Wilbur attended country school District 116 through 8th grade and graduated from Walnut Grove High School in 1947. On October 16, 1950 Wilbur joined the US Navy and was stationed at Subic Bay, Philippines. He was honorably discharged in 1954. Wilbur was a member of the Walnut Grove Lions Club and Trinity Lutheran Church where he served on various church boards and as head usher. He was very active with the Wilder Museum working with his special friends Amy Ankrum and Nicole Elzenga. Wilbur was Commander of the Alfred Nelson Legion Post 267 and served on the board of Crippled Children of Worthington.
Wilbur is survived by his siblings: Marvin (Marge) of Milroy, David (Jean) of Littleton, CO, and Diane (Vern) Krentz of Hutchinson; four nieces; and three nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother Vernon.
