Irene A. Zinda, age 88 of Westbrook passed away Sunday, May 3, 2009 at the Westbrook Good Samaritan Center.  Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Westbrook.  Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Westbrook Funeral Home and will continue one hour prior to the services at the church on Thursday.  Interment will be in the Westbrook Cemetery.  The Westbrook Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Irene Amalia (Steen) Zinda was born October 4, 1920 on the family farm in Rosehill Township to John and Amalia (Wildfeuer) Steen.  She was baptized and confirmed at the Lutheran church in Rosehill Township.  Irene attended country school at Rosehill through the 8th grade.  On July 9, 1938 Irene was united in marriage to Michael Zinda in Appleton, Minnesota.  Together the couple farmed in Swift County before moving to the Dovray area in December 1947.  Irene and Mike operated Mike’s Place until 1975.  Irene later worked at the Westbrook Egg Company and the Dovray Manor.  Irene lived at the corner until moving to Westbrook in 1999.  She entered the Westbrook Good Samaritan Center in October 2003, where she had resided since.

Irene was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church where she was active in the circle and CCW.  She was also a member of the Dovray Boosters.  Irene enjoyed playing cards with the girls, playing Bingo, bowling, cooking, sewing, and gardening.  She especially enjoyed spending time with her friends and family.

Irene is survived by her children: Beverly Risacher of Albertville, Dennis (Jane) Zinda of Big Lake, Gary (Patricia) Zinda of North St. Paul, Kathie (Keith) Christians of Westbrook, Joel (Mary) Zinda of Oakdale, and Mark Zinda of Vesta; 14 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Mike in February of 1989; 4 brothers; one infant sister; and a son-in-law Dick.
