Emma V. Dahms

Emma V. Dahms age 93 of Redwood Falls, formerly of Clements, passed away at Seasons Hospice in Redwood Falls on Saturday, March 3, 2012.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday at the First United Methodist Church in Redwood Falls with interment in the New Avon Salem Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Redwood Valley Funeral Home in Redwood Falls, and will continue one hour prior to services at the Church on Thursday.   Stephens Funeral Service – Redwood Valley Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Emma V. (Tonak) Dahms was born March 5th, 1918 in Sundown Township, Redwood County, Minnesota, the daughter of Herman and Emma (Meyer) Tonak.  She was baptized and confirmed at the Sundown Lutheran Church.  Emma attended Sundown School District #71.  On March 5, 1942, she married Elmer F. Dahms. They farmed near Clements for nearly 60 years, living on the same farm for 50 years before moving to Johnson Park Place in 2007.  Emma was active in 4-H as a youth and served many years as an adult leader of the Clements Crusaders 4-H Club.  She was an active exhibitor at the Redwood County Fair in the open class for her flower gardening, baking and sewing.  Emma and her family attended New Avon Salem Methodist Church (formerly EUB), where she was active in the ladies aid, until it closed in 2002.  Emma and Elmer then attended New Avon United Methodist Church south of Redwood Falls for a number of years, and later became members of the United Methodist Church in Redwood Falls, where she continued to be active in the United Methodist Woman.  Emma was also active in the Redwood County Extension Service.

Emma is survived by her husband Elmer; three sons and a daughter: E. C. “Al” (Barbara) Dahms, their son Jeffrey and grandson Jorge, & their daughter Tanya (Mark) Sundberg, and two grandsons: Benjamin and Samuel; Eugene (Judith) Dahms, their daughter Jennifer (Jason) Alders, and three granddaughters: McKinnsey, Morgan and Megan, & their son Brian (Melissa); Gary (Barbara) Dahms, their daughter Michelle (Byron) Pike, and granddaughter Madison, & their son Michael; LuAnn (Bradley) Schloesser and their  two daughters: Jessica (Charles) Yost, and grandchildren: Lydia, Elijah and Dominic, & Carissa (Isaac) Odland.  She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Virginia, sons Dennis and Kevin, brothers: August, Herman & Donald and a sister Delores Madsen.
