Laverne L. Halvorson
Laverne L. Halvorson, age 95 of Revere, formerly of Lamberton passed away while surrounded by his family on Friday, September 28, 2012 at his home.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 2 at the Lamberton Church of Christ.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Interment is in the Lamberton Cemetery. A luncheon and time of fellowship will immediately follow the committal. Stephens Funeral Service – Walnut Grove Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Laverne L. Halvorson was born August 31, 1917 in Highwater Township, Minnesota to Theodore and Bertha (Blank) Halvorson. He attended country school, District 28. On March 4, 1944, Laverne was united in marriage to Vernette Jenson. Following their marriage, the couple lived in Cloquet where Laverne worked for the railroad and did construction in the area. Later they moved to the home farm near Lamberton where Laverne farmed for 10 years before moving into Lamberton. At this time, Laverne remodeled and fixed houses to sell; he loved to remodel and fix up houses. Laverne also loved fishing, hunting, mowing lawn and gardening. He enjoyed traveling with his family, old time dancing, playing pool, and listening to music – especially Boxcar Willie. Laverne was a longtime member of the Church of Christ in Lamberton.
He is survived by his wife Vernette; children: Donald (Betty) of Windom, Gary (Marlice) of Youngsville, NC, Patricia (Gene) Gores of Vesta, Karen (Roy) Schmidt of Bingham Lake, Beverly (David) MaKarrall of Revere, Renee (Michael) Eichten of Lamberton, Richard (Jan) of Springfield, Vicki (Rodney) Wendt of Comfrey; 13 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and 12 step grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters: Lucille Burt of Rogers, AK, Arlene (Win) Templeton of Two Harbors, MN, Marion (Jim) Jenson of Sanborn, MN; sisters-in-law: Delores, Betty, Nana, and Nettie Halvorson; and many nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, son-in-law Larry Knapper, grandson Scott MaKarrall, great-grandson Zachary Gores, and brothers: Gordon, Duane, Jerome, Kenneth, Lowell, and Dale.
