Verna Kopperud age 91 of Westbrook passed away Sunday, August 12, 2012 at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls.  Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 18 at Old Westbrook Lutheran Church. 

Visitation is 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday at the Westbrook Funeral Home and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.  Interment is in Old Westbrook Lutheran Cemetery.  Westbrook Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. 

Verna Kopperud was born December 28, 1920 to Nick and Clara (Warner) Edwards in Highwater Township, Cottonwood County, Minnesota.  She was baptized and confirmed at Old Westbrook Lutheran Church. She graduated from Lamberton High School and attended Lutheran Bible Institute in Minneapolis. Verna married Marlin Kopperud on October 7, 1944. She and Marlin lived and farmed in Ann Township their entire lives. She was a lifelong member of Old Westbrook Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School, served in the Welca group, sang in the choir, and was always active in prayer circle. Her family was the focus of her life.  She loved flowers, gardening, and visiting with family and friends.

Verna is survived by sons Russell (Paula) Kopperud of West Minster, CO, and Keith (Cheryl) Kopperud of Redwood Falls; grandchildren: Bryce (Audrey) Kopperud of Windsor, CO, Joel Kopperud of Washington DC, Kristine (Ryan) Jepsen of Dorchester, IA, and Kenneth (Alison) Kopperud of Omaha, NE; great-granddaughters: Halle and Sophia Kopperud, and Eliza Jepsen; step grandchildren Harrison and Benjamin Jones of West Minster, CO.  She is also survived by brothers: Lloyd (Janis) Edwards of Phoenix, AZ, Mike (Lucille) Edwards of Alexandria, and Norman (Doris) Edwards of Anoka; and sister Ethel (Melvin) Hooge of Mountain Lake.  She is preceded in death by her parents Nick and Clara, husband Marlin, brother Joseph Edwards and sister Eunice Churchill.
