Delna Laura Mischke, age 85 of Westbrook, passed away peacefully, while surrounded by family, on Thursday, October 9, 2025 at Our House Hospice of Murray County in Slayton. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 15, 2025 at Grace Lutheran Church in Westbrook. Visitation will be held 4:00-7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Westbrook Funeral Home and will continue one hour prior to the service at church on Wednesday. Burial is in the Emmanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Rosehill Township. Stephens Funeral Service – Westbrook Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Delna Laura Mischke was born July 11, 1940, in Albert Lea, MN to Dallas and Evelyn (Roesler) Yonkey. She grew up in rural Wells, MN and attended country school at District 40 Pink Schoolhouse, graduating from Wells High School in 1958. Delna then continued her education at the Minnesota School of X-Ray and Laboratory Technique in Minneapolis, MN. She took her first job in Westbrook, MN at the hospital and clinic.
On October 8, 1960, Delna was united in marriage to Wayne Mischke at the EUB Church in Wells, MN. Their early years were spent in Lakefield and Windom, MN, where Delna worked in the Lakefield Clinic. They added two girls to the family during these years. In 1977, a move to Rosehill Township was a big change. Farming became the new way of life. Wayne took care of the crops, while Delna and the girls ran the hog farrowing operations along with working at Clinics in Windom and Heron Lake over the years. They retired from farming in 2002.
Delna had a passion for reading, birding, fishing, camping, and traveling with her children and grandchildren. Her most memorable trip was camping in Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks.
Delna is survived by her husband, Wayne; two children and their spouses: Tanley and Richard Buckentin, Windom, and Delayne and Brad Severson, Sioux Falls, SD; four grandchildren: Brandon Buckentin, Anthony (Kelly) Buckentin, Johanna McCabe-Severson (Matt), Jonah Severson; five great-grandchildren: Tyler Buckentin, Mason Buckentin, Ryan Buckentin; Addisyn Buckentin and Lynken Buckentin; and her twin sister, Doris (Mrs. Chuck Brooks) of the Baltimore, MD area. Delna is preceded in death by her parents Dallas and Evelyn Yonkey, sister Carol Lang, and brother Dale Yonkey.
