Au revoir M. ANGE You were a dedicated teacher and coach, and not a bad drinking buddy it turned out( I was over 21, and it was in Paris). You never gave up on any of us. You gave me a passion for a language and culture that I have since adopted. (30 years living in France now). Un ange passe et l'au-delà s'est enrichi. Que dieu te donne une salle de classe la haut, remplie d'élèves qui n'attends que a apprendre

Mr. Engel was the best teacher! He made sure that we were pronouncing the French words properly. He was an inspiration both academically and as a person. He was an upstanding member of the Catholic Church where I attended. I only have good memories of him.

I was one of the lucky students who went with Mr. Engel to France way back in 1980. I just retired from teaching this past spring, and I am amazed to hear that Mr. Engel just quit subbing himself only a year before me! He was a great teacher and a great person. My condolences to his family and friends.

I had the privilege of chaperoning a trip to Spain with Shorty and Pam in 2018. He and I hit it off right away. I recall watching "The Passion" on my phone with him on Good Friday and having deep discussions about the minor differences between Catholics and Lutherans. Shorty was a caring and insightful guy. He wanted the best for all students and he had a way of getting that through to them, all the while expecting compliance and respect. One day in Spain, Pam and I took Shorty shopping and he got some skinny jeans! What a wonderful man. I feel so blessed to have made his acquaintance.
