Bernice J. Shemon

Bernice J. Shemon, known to many as “B”, age 82 of Redwood Falls, formerly of Seaforth, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, March 25, 2011 at Seasons Hospice in Redwood Falls after a courageous battle with cancer.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Redwood Falls.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Wednesday AT THE CHURCH, and will continue one hour prior to services on Thursday.  Interment is in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Seaforth.  Stephens Funeral Service – Redwood Valley Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Bernice J. (Bliss) Shemon was born January 25, 1929 to George and Leona (Shaffer) Bliss on a farm by Delhi.  She attended country school district 14 near Wabasso and district 4 near Redwood Falls.  Bernice was united in marriage to Rolland Shemon on June 15, 1948 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Seaforth.  Together the couple lived and farmed near Seaforth.  They moved to Redwood Falls in 2004, where she has resided since.  Bernice was a member of the Seaforth Booster Club.  She was an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, and recently became a member of St. Catherine’s Catholic Church.  Bernice enjoyed playing cards, entertaining and being with friends.  She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Bernice is survived by her children: Kathleen (Douglas) Dahms of Redwood Falls, Michael (Kathy) Shemon of Maple Grove, Kim Shemon of Seaforth, and Ron (fiancé Gina Annis) Shemon of Clearwater; grandchildren: Cynthia (Chad) Dallenbach, Christina Westfield, Anthony (Jessica) Dahms, Angela Morris, Amanda, Rachel and Madeline Shemon, Randy Knott, Jordan Maserek, Lyndsay (Tyler) Serbus, Lucas Shemon and Joshua Shemon; 11 great grandchildren; sister Mary Lou Burtzel of Redwood Falls; brothers Ervin Bliss of Seaforth and Gary (Lorna) Bliss of Redwood Falls; sisters in law Alice Shemon of Spicer and Thrasilla Nelson of Owatonna; and many other relatives and friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Rolland, sons Steven and Daniel Shemon, brothers Clinton, Daryl and Donald Bliss, and sisters Wilma Mammen and Hazel Pratt.
