Jeffrey Thomas Mertens, age 62 of Echo, passed away Wednesday, July 1, 2026 at Parkview Senior Living in Belview. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 7, 2026 at St. Catherine Catholic Church in Redwood Falls. Visitation will be held 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Monday, July 6 at the Redwood Valley Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at church on Tuesday. Interment is in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery at Seaforth. Stephens Funeral Service - Redwood Valley Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Jeffrey Thomas Mertens was born on November 13, 1963, in Redwood Falls, Minnesota, to Leo and Theresa (Starken) Mertens. He attended Wabasso Public School, graduating in 1982. Jeff spent 30 years working at a cabinet shop in Cottonwood, where he became a specialty cabinet builder and took great pride in the quality of his work. He also helped with fieldwork on the family farm each spring and fall. Two years ago, he made a career change and went to work for Farmers Coop Elevator in Montevideo. He enjoyed working with farmers, loading trains, and tackling whatever job needed to be done. Most of all, he appreciated being able to work outdoors. Jeff enjoyed just about any outdoor activity. In his younger years, he loved horseback riding, water skiing, and snowmobiling with friends. Family fondly remembers him giving his cousins exciting sled rides behind the snowmobile during family gatherings. He liked to go fast and made adventures they never forgot. Jeff always looked forward to family gatherings, especially when there was good food. Over the years, Jeff enjoyed many hunting, fishing, and ice fishing trips with his brother-in-law Doug and family, creating stories that are still told today. On one deer hunting trip, Jeff and Doug were assigned to push deer toward the other hunters. After following a set of tracks for quite some time, Jeff finally pointed out that they had been following the other hunters’ footprints the whole time. It became one of many stories that brought plenty of laughs over the years. Another memorable hunting trip included a middle-of-the-night scramble after an agitated squirrel found its way into the cabin. As everyone tried to catch it, Jeff managed to grab only its tail. After plenty of laughter and mayhem, the squirrel was finally captured.

Following his cancer diagnosis, the Hagen boys took Jeff on a catfishing trip to the Red River near Fargo. It became one of his favorite recent memories. God made sure Jeff caught the biggest catfish of the day, along with several others. Jeff was always willing to lend a hand whenever someone needed help. During his illness, he was deeply appreciative of everyone who visited, took him for rides, offered their support, and cared for him.

Jeff survived by his daughters: Justina (Eian) Denton of Fairmont & Tanisha (Kolin) Eckstrom of Hanley Falls; grandchildren: Liam, Willow & Londynn Eckstrom, Zoie & baby (in January) Denton; father Leo Mertens of Wabasso; siblings: Barb (Doug) Hagen of Hanley Falls, Greg (Dawn) Mertens of Olivia, Todd (Nicole) Mertens of Wabasso & Dawn ( Dennis) Eitel of Sebeka; nieces & nephews: Andrew Hagen, Darik (Sarah) Mertens, Malori (Cale) Blare, Martin (Becky) Hagen, Austin Mertens, Hannah (Cody) Bernardy, Cole ( Mallarie) Mertens, Breann Mertens, Katalynn ( Max) DeGroat, Trey Mertens, Brooklynn Mertens, Tony Mertens, Hana Eitel, Blake Eitel, Emma Mertens & Chloe Mertens; and many great- nieces and nephews. Jeff is preceded in death by his mother Theresa Mertens, brother Ronnie Mertens and grandparents: Cleo & Henry Mertens and Alice & Harold Starken.

Dean Allen Albertson, age 78, of Walnut Grove, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on June 26, 2026. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. July 3, 2026 at the Plum Creek Lower Park in Walnut Grove. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the celebration at the park, with fellowship time to follow. Interment will be held in the Walnut Grove Cemetery. Please, bring your own refreshments for a toast to Dean. Stephens Funeral Service – Walnut Grove Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Dean Allen Albertson was born on November 17, 1947, to Russell and Bertha (Cazett) Albertson in Springfield, Minnesota. He experienced the loss of his mother at a young age, as she passed away when he was just eight years old. His father later married Bea Ronning, who became part of his life and a wonderful mother. Dean married the love of his life, Darlene Johnson, on February 3, 1968, at Willow Lake Lutheran church. They built a life together and raised their two sons, Charlie and Rob. Darlene passed away in 2020, a loss Dean carried deeply and held close to his heart for the rest of his life.

Dean was a hardworking man throughout his life, known for his strong work ethic and dedication in many fields. He worked for Bystrom Brothers as a machinist, road construction in the Twin Cities, farmed with the Jensens, A&W Electric alongside his brother, and later moved to Walnut Grove, where he worked for Dudgeon Tiling. He also worked for Sell Brothers, farmed with Jeff Bertschi, VanDeWiele Grain Bin Moving, a farmhand with Terry Quiring, and later with Parker & Sons Tiling in Revere. He finished his working years at Plum Creek County Park, where he enjoyed his retirement outdoors and staying active. Dean proudly served on the Walnut Grove Fire Department for 20 years from 1983-2003, earning the title Captain of the tanker; dedicating himself to his community and always being someone others could depend on. Active in his church, Dean served as deacon, trustee and usher at English Lutheran Church.

Outside of work, Dean loved the simple things in life and the routines that brought people together. Every Saturday morning, he never missed going to “pop time” at Bruce’s. He enjoyed grilling pork loins with Richie and taking motorcycle rides with family, friends, and especially with Robbie – his true “ride or die” – making countless memories on the open road. One of his favorite places was the Legion, where he enjoyed time with friends and sharing beers with the boys. He also enjoyed Tom and Jerry’s around Christmas, and attending bullhead feeds – times he truly cherished.

Dean was a man you could always count on. Anytime someone needed help, he was there – steady, dependable, and willing without hesitation. His family was so important to him and did his very best to support them. Above all, Dean loved his family deeply. He shared a special bond with his grandchildren: Dylan, Joseph, & Mae, whom he loved with all his heart. His great-grandchildren, Lexie & Bo, brought him immense joy and pride in his later years. When the great-grandkids came along, Dean proudly took on the title of “Pop pop”. When family would visit him at the home, the little ones would come through the doors calling out, “Pop pop!” – a sound that always lit up his day.

Dean is survived by his kids: Rob (Laura) of Revere & Charlie (Caitlin) of St. Clair; grandchildren: Dylan (Shanaya), Joseph, Mae; great-grandchildren: Lexie & Bo; and sister, Shirley. He is preceded in death by his wife, Darlene; parents; grandparents; three brothers: Arlin, Richard, Jim; and sister, Karen.

Dean will be deeply missed by his family and many friends.

Crystal Lee (Marshall) Dahmes, age 58 of Springfield, passed away peacefully, while surrounded by her family, on Sunday, June 21, 2026 at New Ulm Medical Center. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 29, 2026 at Cornerstone Christian Church in Redwood Falls. Visitation will be 2:00 - 6:00 p.m. Sunday, June 28 at the Redwood Valley Funeral Home, and will continue one hour prior to the service at church on Monday. Burial will be in the New Avon Salem Cemetery, rural Wabasso. Stephens Funeral Service - Redwood Valley Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Crystal was born October 23, 1967 at Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg, VA to Curtis Norman Marshall and Joan Marie (Owens) Marshall.

Crystal always carried a special love for her Virginia family and the place where her story began. She treasured her relationships with her family in Virginia. Time spent together created cherished memories, including one of her favorite Virginia traditions - enjoying butter drenched crab, a simple pleasure that brought her happiness and connected her to her roots.

Crystal attended school in Colonial Beach, VA and Douglas, Wyoming where she graduated from Douglas High School. She continued her education at Willmar Technical College, earning her Medical Assistant certificate and beginning a path of caring for others.

The most cherished chapters of Crystal’s life began when she met the love of her life and her best friend, Scott. Their relationship grew into a lifelong partnership, and Scott proposed to Crystal at the Hermann the German Monument in New Ulm, Minnesota. Scott and Crystal were married at the New Avon Salem Church on October 18, 1986.

Crystal and Scott shared a marriage built on faith, love, commitment and devotion. Scott was not only her husband, but her best friend and companion. Their marriage is a true partnership - two people who became deeply connected, supporting and caring for each other through all of life’s joys and challenges. Their life is a beautiful example of a devoted and faithful marriage.

Together Crystal and Scott built a life centered around love, family, hard work, and commitment. They were blessed with 5 children; Lindsey, Joshua, Jordan, Brooke and Rebecca. Crystal was blessed with grandchildren who brought her immeasurable joy. Being a mother and grandmother was one of the greatest gifts of her life, and she treasured every moment spent celebrating, supporting, and loving them.

Crystal began working at Sawvell Seed in Clements and through hard work, dedication, and commitment, she and Scott became owners. She took great pride in the business and enjoyed working alongside Scott and helping him on the farm throughout her life. She was a valued part of the agricultural community.

Crystal found joy in the simple and meaningful things in life. She loved gardening, canning and making the best food for the people she loved. She had a special gift for making every holiday, birthday, and interaction feel meaningful. She was often the first to check in, to remember birthdays, make plans and remind others that they mattered. Crystal loved horses, barrel racing, and her cats. She enjoyed collecting vintage Pyrex, antiques and collected belt buckles and glass ware with her father-in-law Vilo. Creating memories and celebrating unique treasures together was important to her.

Crystal had a natural talent for numbers and managing details. She was dependable, organized and took pride in doing things well. Helping others came naturally to her, and she consistently put the needs of others before her own. For several years, Crystal battled thyroid cancer. Despite chronic pain, nausea, fatigue and losing her ability to speak, she faced each challenge with extraordinary courage and grace. She navigated those hardships heroically and never complained. Even during her own struggles, Crystal continued to focus on caring for the people she loved, offering kindness, encouragement, and support.

Crystal will be remembered for her loving heart, her devotion to Scott and her family, her compassion for others, her strength through adversity, her love of animals, her appreciation for treasured memories and her ability to make every person feel valued and loved.

Crystal is preceded in death by her beloved son Joshua Dahmes, her mother Joan Vinich, her stepfather Robert Vinich, her grandparents John Stanley Owens and Mary Burnley Owens, her uncle James “Bobby” Owens, her brother James Childers, her father- and mother-in-law Vilo and Joan Dahmes, and her grandfather George Curtis Marshall.

Crystal is survived by her devoted husband Scott Alan Dahmes; children: Lindsey (Jose) Zandonadi, Jordan Dahmes, Brooke Dahmes, and Rebecca (Gabriel) Schumacher; grandchildren: Camila, Maximus, Everly, Gabriella, Lincoln, Burnley and one on the way; father and stepmother Curtis and Mary Marshall; aunts: Marge Owens and Burnley “Pill” Landing: siblings: Carolyn (Richard) Steinruck, Curtis Marshall, Amy Segars, Lisa Childers, Nina (Lee) Brett, Matt (Shannon) Childers, and John (Melba) Childers; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Crystal’s legacy is one of love, faith, courage, generosity and devotion. She showed those around her what it means to love deeply, serve selflessly, and face life’s challenges with strength. Her final moments reflected the way she lived her life - surrounded by family and deeply loving the people who meant the most to her.

William “Bill” Henry Roemer II, age 77 of Tracy, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 3, 2026 at his home, while surrounded by his loving family after a hard-fought battle with cancer. Memorial Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 10, 2026 at Tracy United Methodist Church with a visitation one hour prior to the services at the church. A private burial will be in Slayton Memorial Gardens. Stephens Funeral Service – Tracy Area Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Bill was born March 31, 1949, in Sioux City, IA to Robert and Constance “Connie” (Havighurst) Roemer. He was the oldest of six siblings and was baptized in the Methodist faith. At the age of 9, his father took a job as a banker and moved his family to Currie, MN. Billy enjoyed the perks of a small-town childhood; nightly family dinners, cultivating lifelong friendships with neighborhood kids while roaming familiar streets, and playing guitar in his first band at 14. After he graduated from Tracy High School, Bill continued his education at Mankato State University for a short time before enlisting in the US Army. He served his country while stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War. Upon his return home, he attended University of Minnesota Twin Cities and obtained a certificate in Court Reporting. In 1982 he married Deborah “Deb” Hendricks and they were blessed with two daughters. Bill found fulfillment in being a stay-at-home dad and caring for his girls, while instilling in them his love of music and education. Favorite family experiences included cross-country road trips planned by Bill and camping at the North Shore.

After Bill and Deb parted ways, he moved back to his hometown of Tracy, MN. It was here that he connected with fellow Tracy High School graduate Koreen Ziemke, who became the love of his life. In addition to sharing 26 years of companionship, laughter, and adventures, she helped Bill find his true calling: sharing the transformative joy of music. He used his natural musical talent and his deep knowledge and love of music to become a performing musician and business owner. He founded Romermusic Karaoke, entertaining countless fans as persona “Billy Elvis”, and traveled rural Minnesota with cofounder and right-hand gal Koreen always by his side. He used his time and talents to contribute to community benefits and charities.

He was a devoted son who cared for his mother in her twilight years. As an adoring grandfather he enjoyed spending time with his 7 grandchildren who energized and entertained him. Music was not his only passion—he was a lifelong Twins fan and political and current affairs aficionado. Affectionately known as “Weatherman Bill” he faithfully provided forecasts to all who knew him.

Though his later years shifted focus towards his health, he maintained his sense of humor, charming everyone with his unique personality, and truly cherished his remaining time with his steadfast family.

Bill is survived by his life partner Koreen Ziemke; children: Sarah (Derek St. Louis) Roemer of Apple Valley & Elizabeth “Liz” Roemer of Lauderdale; stepsons: Jonas Molitor of Slayton & Lucas (Tiffany) Molitor of Tracy; grandchildren: Juniper St. Louis, Ashton, Tatum & Rhiannon Molitor, Jett, Jack & Josephine Molitor; siblings: Jim (Jean) Roemer of Woodbury, Janet Roemer & Nancy Roemer both of Richfield & John (Mindi) Roemer of Minneapolis; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives & dear friends. He is preceded in death by his parents and beloved brother Gene Lawrence Roemer.

The family would like to thank Sanford Medical Staff in Tracy and Sioux Falls for their compassionate and dedicated care of Bill for the last 5 years.

In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to the Red Cross to benefit “Blood Services”, as Bill’s frequent and essential blood transfusions were only made possible by the generosity of blood donors.

In Loving Memory of Dr. Mark Lewis Norman III

Beloved Father, Physician, Avid Outdoorsman, and Friend

Dr. Mark Lewis Norman III

August 29, 1953 – May 30, 2026

Dr. Mark Lewis Norman III, a beloved ophthalmologist, devoted husband, and cherished father, passed away peacefully on May 30th, 2026. He was a man whose quiet strength, generous spirit, and deep love for his family left an indelible mark on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

Mark met the love of his life, Polly Sandvik, in high school — a chance encounter that would become the great love story of his life. They married and spent 48 remarkable years together, building a home filled with laughter, adventure, and devotion to one another and their family. They shared the same birthday, August 29th, though one year apart.

Driven by a lifelong commitment to healing, Mark pursued medicine and dedicated his career to the field of ophthalmology. Over the course of his distinguished career, he touched the lives of countless patients, restoring and preserving the gift of sight with the steady hands and compassionate care that defined him as a physician.

Outside the office, Mark was a man of the outdoors in the truest sense. For many years he channeled his passion for hunting and working dogs into Sharp Shooters Kennel, where he trained hunting dogs with the patience, skill, and quiet authority that those who knew him would instantly recognize. In his later years he brought that same dedication to Geis Farms, where he continued to pursue the outdoor life he loved so deeply. Whether in the field with his dogs, working through a round of golf, or exploring somewhere new on a family trip, Mark was at his best when surrounded by open skies and the people he loved.

Dr. Mark Lewis Norman III lived fully, loved fiercely, and will be greatly missed.

He is preceded in death by his parents Dr. Mark Norman II and Mary Elizabeth Norman. He is survived by his loving wife, Polly Norman; his sons, Mark Norman IV (Rose), Thomas Norman (Megan) and Grandkids; Madeleine, Elise, Olive, Theodore, and Ford, as well as brothers Matthew (Stephanie), Michael (Heidi), and nieces Hannah and Katherine, all whose lives he brightened simply by being in them.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are preferred to pheasantsforever.org where Mark was a proud and long-standing member.

Celebration of life service to be announced in the near future.

JoAnn Sperl, age 89 of Redwood Falls, passed away, with loved ones at her side, on Saturday, May 30, 2026 at CentraCare St. Cloud Hospital. A private funeral service will be held. A public visitation will be held 5:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, June 4, 2026 at the Redwood Valley Funeral Home. Burial will be in St. Catherine Catholic Cemetery. Stephens Funeral Service - Redwood Valley Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

JoAnn Sperl was born March 9, 1937 in Vail Township, near Wabasso, Redwood County, Minnesota. She was the daughter of George and Dorothy (Boever) Guetter. She was baptized at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Wabasso and confirmed at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Sanborn. She graduated from St. Anne’s Catholic School in 1955 and furthered her education at St. Catherine’s University Department of Nursing, St. Mary’s Unit, where she graduated in 1958. On January 10, 1959, JoAnn was united in marriage to Robert Sperl at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Wabasso. JoAnn worked hard all her life caring for her family and others. She raised seven children, and loved spending time spoiling their offspring. She and Bob had several large gardens, and they grew various types of vegetables, specifically tomatoes. JoAnn also did a lot of canning and cooking, but baking was her favorite. When she had free time, she could be found knitting, embroidering, enjoying her dogs, feeding the birds and playing cards – mostly Solitaire and King’s Corner with her grandchildren. Along with raising her children, JoAnn was proud to be a Registered Nurse. She spent countless hours caring for others, whether it be a hand to hold and a back rub or a shoulder to cry on. She preferred to be called “Ma Sperl” because when you were in her care, you were family. Her kindness and compassion has touched many lives. JoAnn was steadfast in her Catholic faith, and you could often find a rosary in her hand while she prayed for someone, or while she was watching Mass on TV. As her family, we find comfort and peace knowing she has a seat at God’s Table.

JoAnn is survived by her son Douglas (Patti) Sperl and their sons James and Jordan Sperl; daughter Nancy Sperl and her sons Joseph (Autumn) Senger and Daniel (Jacqueline) Senger; son John (Denise) Sperl and their children John Jr (Chelsey Malecek) Sperl, Tom Sperl, Nicholas (Cassie) Sperl and Avery Sperl; deceased daughter Noreen’s children: Amanda (Daniel) Mahoney and Johnathon (Doug) Steenson; daughter Koleen Sperl and her daughter Mariah Terrell; daughter Joyce (Dan) Smith and their son Wyatt; daughter Sandy (David) Sperl; 7 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; and sister-in-law Margie Killmer. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert, daughter Noreen, brother Warren, and several sisters- and brothers-in-law.

David Alan Schwaegerl, age 64, walked on to the next life on Tuesday, May 26, 2026. Memorial Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 18, 2026 at St. Catherine Catholic Church in Redwood Falls with a visitation one hour prior to the services at the church. Burial will take place in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery - Redwood Falls. The family encourages folks to wear a favorite pair of jeans and a t-shirt to the service in recognition of David’s no-nonsense style. In lieu of flowers, contributions to your local Humane Society, animal shelter, or pet rescue are appreciated. Stephens Funeral Service - Redwood Valley Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

The baby of the family, David Alan Schwaegerl, was born August 6, 1961 and raised in Redwood Falls, MN by parents Jim and Joyce (Kieper) Schwaegerl. He learned to give wet willies, play dirty at card games, and how to annoy his big sister Julie and brother Tim. David was a proud Air Force veteran, serving as a Sargent working on Minutemen missiles, who kept close connections to his Minot, ND base throughout his lifetime. He worked most of his career at the Hutchinson 3M, and retired only a few years ago. He spent his time, money, and passions with friends and family — riding (and fixing) motorcycles, racing (and fixing) snowmobiles, attaining his pilot’s license and flying a small plane like his grandfather, tinkering with engines of all shapes and sizes, and keeping an appreciation for a good sound system — the kind with bass you can feel driving down the street.

David joins his mother Joyce, his best friend Rick Seaman, and his beloved cats Shadow and Rusty on the other side.

He will be deeply missed by his father James Schwaegerl; sister Julie (Darryl) Rothmeier; brother Timothy (Mary) Schwaegerl; his heartbroken nieces and nephews and their families: Becky Rothmeier, Tom Rothmeier, Stephanie (Michelle) Jakubek, Kelsey (Jason) Bartosh, Kale (Kelsey) Schwaegerl, Catherine (Brandon) Campbell; and extended family, friends, and acquaintances who knew his quiet generosity.

Donald John Engelkes, age 90 of Tracy, MN, passed away Tuesday, May 5, 2026 at Prairie View Senior Living in Tracy. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 8, 2026 at Tracy Lutheran Church, with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Tracy City Cemetery. Stephens Funeral Service – Tracy Area Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Donald John Engelkes was born in Worthington, Minnesota on June 25, 1935 to John Engelkes and Helen (Karstens) Engelkes, and was baptized in the Christian faith. As a child, he attended school in Worthington, Rushmore country school, Westbrook, and then Slayton. When growing up, he enjoyed participating in baseball, football, basketball, fishing and being on the water – most often Lake Shetek. As a freshman in Slayton, he was a starter on the “A” squad. In 1960, he and his parents moved to Tracy where they started and owned & operated the Red Owl store on Highway 14. It was there and at the bank where Don met his future wife, Carolyn. He and Carolyn Anderson were married at Tracy Lutheran Church on September 16, 1961. To this union, 2 sons were born. From 1963 until 1973, Don and Carolyn started and owned “Don’s Produce” which bought local farmers’ eggs. The business later expanded to other laying houses in the area. During this time he even took up snowmobiling with his buddies. In February 1973, they became owners of the Red Rooster Restaurant which would span over the next 30+ years. That became a main part of their lives where again, customers and the many employees also became friends. During that time they purchased a small cabin on Lake Sarah which they still own and enjoy today with their growing family. Through the years, Don spent a lot of time driving the boat as his sons, their friends, wife Carolyn and grandchildren learned how to water ski. For a few summers he played on a horseshoe league and also, with the help of other team members, helped construct the current horseshoe courts. At the age of 65, a good friend introduced him to the game of golf, which became a passion for him. This passion has been passed down to some of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He spent many days on the golf course, not only playing very well, but getting acquainted with many fellow golfers. In July 2005, he even made a “hole in one!” He loved to shoot trap and was a lifelong member of the Tracy Sportsman Club. He attended many ATA shoots and won many awards. Another game he loved was poker. For over 45 years he enjoyed a weekly get-together with a small group of his friends who also enjoyed the same. He enjoyed living on the small acreage just out of town and where his boys grew up. He loved keeping the yard mowed and having all the family gather there for whatever the occasion might be. Don loved his family and was always concerned about their safety and wellbeing. A regular exiting conversation was “Did you check your oil and are all the tires up? Hook your seatbelt!” He enjoyed telling the family stories about his interesting and sometimes dangerous escapades he did in his younger days. For the last several years, the highlight of the week was to watch the Saturday night music line up on RFD TV. It was at his home that his family celebrated his 90th birthday in June 2025. In February 2026, Don entered the Prairie View nursing home. He passed away there on May 5, 2026.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn; sons: Brian (Roxy) Engelkes of Zimmerman and Kevin (Linda) Engelkes of Tracy; 5 grandchildren: Keith (Amy) Engelkes of Tracy, Brandon (Ari) Engelkes of Tracy, Bailey (Christian) Benolkin of Coon Rapids, Taylor (Tavis) Bergmann of Long Prairie, Brennan Engelkes of Zimmerman; 11 great grandchildren: Caroline, Leena & Noah Engelkes, Kimber Oines, Nash & Ella Engelkes, Stella, Adaline & Vivian Benolkin, Sophia & Jayden Bergmann; and many nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents John and Helen, father- and mother-in-law Ted and Clara Anderson, sister Arlyss (John) Post, brother-in-law Tom Anderson, sister-in-law Edith (Loren) Schmidt, and many golfing, trapshooting, and card playing friends.

We will miss you, Papa Don!

Don will be lovingly remembered by all those who had the chance to know him.

Cheryl "Cheri" Kae (Wessels) Nielsen, age 60, of Redwood Falls, formerly of Windom, MN, passed away in the comfort of her own home on April 28, 2026. A Last Call With Cheri will be held 2:00-5:00 p.m. Saturday, May 23, 2026 at the Redwood Falls Golf Club. Stephens Funeral Service - Redwood Valley Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Cheryl "Cheri" Kae (Wessels) Nielsen was born to Jean (Hayne) Quade and Larry Wessels on May 22, 1965. She was the oldest of three children, including Leanne and Jodi, and she didn't let anyone forget it. Her later teen years were spent causing trouble, but prior to that, she'd tell stories of being in the Girl Scouts with her sister Leanne, and her mom and Aunt Barb as troop leaders. She would help her dad and Uncle Dwayne go snapping turtle hunting, where Cheri had to hold the stick and pull the head out. She'd tell stories of riding her bike around Windom or swimming at the pool.

In 1987, at the age of 22, Cheri gave birth rather suddenly, to her first born, Justin. As a single mom she worked hard to build a life for the two of them. She had support from her mother Jean and step-father Roger, to care for Justin while she would work at The Happy Chef in Windom or PJ's in Wilder. It was at PJ's that she met Andy Nielsen. The couple were married on April 4th, 1992. On their first wedding anniversary, they had their daughter, Chelsey. The family primarily lived in Windom, Jeffers, and eventually Redwood Falls. This marriage ended in divorce in 2002. In 2005, she welcomed her youngest son, Cody. Cody was an anchor for Cheri, who kept her going.

While living in Redwood Falls, Cheri worked at Schoffman's and Kibble Equipment. Over the course of her life Cheri enjoyed playing pool, darts, camping, and family kickball games! Cheri was always excited for music around the bonfire with her dad and uncle singing and playing the accordion, with backup by Justin on a guitar. She loved going to Chelsey's gymnastics meets, and Cody's baseball games. She always took great pride in Women's Rights and being a "strong Hayne woman," as modeled by her mother Jean. Later in life, Cheri was a budding movie and TV critic, always interested in a new show or movie, willing to share recommendations. She was a devoted Minnesota sports fan and rarely missed a game on TV.

Cheri is survived by her father and step-mother, Larry (Sue) Wessels; step-father, Roger Quade; three children: Justin Nielsen, Chelsey Lund & Cody Schroeder; two "grand babies," Henry & James; two sisters, Leanne (Mark) O'Brien & Jodi Budge; two nieces, Jordan (Amy) Meany & Graycee Budge; nephew, Jacob Meany; as well as many other cousins, friends, and relatives. Cheri is preceded in death by her mother, Jean in 2001; brother-in-law, Mike Budge; beloved dog Taz; along with many other family members.
